Can't We Just Start Over?

Part 15

(Nathan)

We pulled up to the campsite after two and a half hours of driving. The driving was interesting, Max and Justin slept the whole way, Chloe and I made small talk. Max climbed off of me before I climbed out of the truck. It wasn't as cold as we thought it would be. The site was beautiful though, we were right by a lake. Trees blanketed this area, making it a bit dark and cool. The lake was a deep blue color, grey fog danced over the water. The trees created a thick wall between us and the rest of the world. Other than the dirt road of course. Small waves lap over the rocks on the edge of the lake. There were a few small cabins spread out around the lake and a few docks around the edge. Justin and I start pulling our bags from the truck and started to set up. Trevor, Warren and Kate started to do the same. Dana, Chloe and Max talked for a moment before helping also.

(Max)

"How'd you sleep Max?" Chloe asked me with a grin.

"Fine I guess." I answered.

"He looked so flustered the whole way up." I roll my eyes before grabbing another bag from the truck. Nathan sets his bag down and starts digging through it. Warren begins helping Kate set up her tent. They seem to get along well, I know she wants to draw together. I look over to Victoria, Courtney Dana and Taylor. The three girls are setting up their massive family size tent. Chloe, Hayden, Trevor and Justin sit on some logs, neatly spaced around the bonfire pit. Hayden already got out his bong and they all start taking hits together. I grab a cooler from Chloe's truck and pull out a can of iced tea. I slowly sip the sweet peachy goodness as I turn back to Nathan. He was setting up a hammock between two trees. He looks up to me with a big smile.

"Come here." He says, I follow his instruction. I try to sit up onto the large hammock but I struggle. Nathan gently wraps his hands around my waist. Similar to the way he did when we went to the lighthouse together for the first time. He lifts me up and I flop onto the hammock. It swings harshly but Nathan steadies it before I fell. He laughs and jumps up onto it. It swings again but he just grabs me and pulls me over him as he lays down. We laugh as the hammock slows down. I gently move so that I'm laying curled up next to him. His arm around me and my head and arm on his chest. I set my hand perfectly over his heart. We sit in silence, just listening to the lake gently lap over rocks, the birds singing sweet songs and the rest of the group. 

The sun was finally starting to set, Warren started the bonfire. Everyone sat around it on logs and folding chairs. Victoria brought a box from her car. Inside were several bottles of wine and a bag with straws longer than the bottles. She made us all get bottles. Kate and Warren didn't, Kate mostly wanted to come to make sure everyone was safe.

I eagerly sip my strawberry wine as I wait for everyone to talk to each other. Two bongs, Chloe's and Hayden's were being passed around the fire. "We should play like truth or dare." Victoria said.

(Nathan)

We all played an odd yet fun game of truth or dare, I was told to do simple things. Max however, she was forced to do more ridiculous things, of course they were Vic's ideas. At one point she was forced to sit on Hayden's lap for ten minutes. I just about went crazy.

"Nathan, truth or dare?" Hayden asked. I ponder the question for a moment.

"Dare."

"I dare you to.. kiss Warren." I look to Warren, his face was bright red.

"Ah fuck it." I say under my breath, I stand up and slap a kiss on the boy.

"BLECH!" He blurts out.

"Oh come on it wasn't so bad Graham." I tease. Everyone was laughing and gasping, surprised I did as I was ordered. Max looks at me trying not to laugh. I make my eyebrow dance and she bursts into laughter. I knock my head back.

"Maximum! Truth or dare." Chloe exclaims.

"Dare!" Max squeals.

"I dare you..." Chloe taps her chin, looking around. She turns back to Max with a grin. "Jump into the lake!" She demands. Max sits in silence for a moment before standing. I watch her closely as she flips her best friend off. Chloe's eyebrows raise before she and everyone else begins to laugh. The alcohol and weed filled Max takes off running for the dock. She strips her sweater off as she runs. I stand to watch, along with everyone else. The small frame stops at the edge of the dock. The lake reflecting the moonlight makes the area brighter. I watch as Max strips the rest of her clothes. She howls before jumping into the cold water. Chloe immediately strips her shirt and beany before sprinting to the dock. I follow, taking my clothes off as I run. I look back to see everyone else, besides Kate and Warren following. I howl as I cannonball into the lake.  Chloe yells "HELLA YES!" before diving in. My body felt numb as I got used to the cold. Max floats near me. I grab her cheeks before kissing her roughly. Howls and screams continue as everyone lands into the water. Laughter fills the air. Everyone splashes each other and gets out to dive in again. Max looks at me with her dazed blue eyes. She gently smiles and leans into kiss me again.

(Max)

I splash Nathan and he looks at me with puppy dog eyes. Our minds are filled with our highs and laughter.

Once we all got numb from the cold we climbed out of the water. I held my hand in Nathan's, I jerk his arm to my body. He turns to me with an eyebrow raised.
"Carry me?" I ask. Nathan laughs before squatting down in front of me. I jump onto his back. Chloe come's up to me with our clothes
"Thanks Chloe." Nathan laughs.

We all hike back up to the camp. Nathan sets me down. I look to one of the chairs. Kate left some towels out for us. That's so sweet of her.. Warren and Kate must have gone to bed. I grab a plush towel and dry off. I slide on my sweats before sitting by the fire again. I don't bother with a shirt though, I have the towel. We all sit around the fire again, drinking some alcohol to warm us up. I look back to Chloe's truck to find Nathan carrying supplies for s'mores.

"Hella yes, I love s'mores!" Chloe blurts happily. Small chatter of excitement comes from the others. Nathan sets down the snacks before sitting next to me again. His arm gently resting around my shoulders. I allow my mind to drift while I wait for my delicious s'mores.
