Several more days of painful skin grafts and treatments later, I finally got the rest I needed. That afternoon, I heard a knock on the door and looked up to find Dr. Latham with a tray of salad, jello, and water.....hospital food. We greeted each other and I ate. After I ate, we talked:

C: "So, from what I've heard, you're on the autism spectrum?"

L: "Yes, I am. Are you?"

C: "Yes. I was diagnosed with Asperger's when I was sixteen years old, though I was tested and therapized prior to."

L: "How tough was it after you found out?"

C: "Well, when I was thirteen years old..around the time my parents divorced and when I was still being bullied in school, my mother...who is a nurse and has known since I was little...told me that I had Asperger's Syndrome."

I explained more about my struggles and how I overcame them. He understood. Then, we talked about our faiths, which was fascinating.

An hour later, after our conversation, Dr. Latham left....then, my dad, stepmom, and two officers from Chicago PD...one including Detective Voight as well as Chief Boden, came into my room and explained that the accident was no accident, a criminal who had been stalking me, poured gasoline on my car while I was at Molly's, therefore...two hours later when the crash occurred, he purposefully crashed his truck into my car. "Did you identify the perp, Voight? Is he in jail?" I asked, angry at the perp. "Yes, and I'm afraid you might know him and he is in questioning at the station." Voight replied. "Who is it?" I asked, as I held my dad's hand. "His name is Tyler Sonoma. He went to college with you and you two were best friends until he experimented with drugs. Is that correct?" Voight explained. I took a deep breath and replied, "Yes.  What was his motive?" "He told us that he was high on drugs and angry at you for losing touch with him." Voight replied. "And he wanted to kill me for that idiocy?" I replied. Voight nodded. "I don't care what he says. Arrest him for attempted murder." I said. "We will." Voight said. I looked at Chief Boden and asked, "What do you know about Tyler?" "He used to work for the fire station, but we fired him and he was arrested after being caught committing arson on a prior business he worked at." Boden explained. I muttered under my breath, "That son of a scumbag!" Then I took a breath and thanked them all for letting me know what happened. Then, they left and I went back to sleep.
