I felt a tap on my shoulder, I groaned in response and pulled the sheets over my head.

"[Your Name], come on wake up." Murmured Alexander who continued to nudge me.

I yawned and slowly started to open my eyes, "But it's still dark outside?" I said questionably.

"I know." Alexander responded, "Remember what is happening today?" He asked as a mixture of emotions spread across his features.

I sat up and sighed heavily, I turned to look at Alexander. Barely able to see his face due to the dim candle light, I murmured "If he doesn't survive this, you are dead."

I glared into his dark eyes as he tried to find a response, "He'll make it, trust me [Your Name]." He said insistingly.

I stood from my bed and started to get dressed. Sure I had on clothing, not much of it though. Judge me if you will, but I'm not going to sleep in full uniform.

I glanced over to Alexander who was staring at me. "What's wrong Alex? Never seen a female body before?" I said jokingly. I pulled a loose shirt over my head, covering my undershirt.

Alexander cleared his voice, "You just surprised me is all."

I turned to him and raised my eyebrow, "Is that so?" I asked as I adjusted my pants and slid on my boots.

"Let's just move on, we've got somewhere to be." He said as he turned from me.

I grabbed my "sling" with my good arm. By "sling" I mean some torn up cloth that the camp doctor gave to me.

Adjusting my arm, I bit my lip as pain shot through my shoulder. Though, it did not take long for me to recover.

Alexander and I walked out of the tent and headed toward the dueling grounds. Once there, Alexander gently shoved me towards a group of men. I staggered back as I examined the terrain, searching for John as I did so.

I spotted him out of the corner of my eye. Though he stood tall, I could tell by the look in his eyes he was scared. My stare eventually caught his attention; he looked at me and gave a brave smile. I forced myself to return the smile as I silently prayed hoping all would go well.

Alexander then caught my attention as he walked up to Aaron Burr whom stood waiting in the middle of the dueling field.

I quietly watched Alexander and Aaron discuss. I bit my lip, knowing it was too late for an apology. Lee was too selfish whilst John only wanted to stand up for the men who had lost their lives.

The two men nodded at each other before walking to the sides of the dueling ground. Out of the corner of my eye, I watched as the doctor turned around.

John and Lee stood back to back, both aiming their guns toward the ground. I bit down hard on my lip as I tried not to cry. Sure, John had a chance of surviving, but he also had the same amount of chance on not surviving.

I watched anxiously as they began to count the paces.

One.

Two.

Three.

Four.

Five.

Six.

Seven.

Eight.

Nine...

"Number 10 paces!" Shouted the crowd around us.

"Fire!"

Within a flash Lee was stumbling over and screaming with pain.

My eyes widened as I watched the scene unfold in front of me. I might not have liked Charles Lee too much, but that will never change my mind on duels. They are just dumb and immature.

Men began to swarm around John, though I managed to push through the crowd. Once I got close enough, I managed to give him a tight hug.

Well, as tight as a one-armed hug could get, that is.

He hugged me back then pulled away, "I did it!" He said with a sense of pride in his voice.

I gave him a small smile as Alexander rushed up to his side, "Well done, Laurens." He said, giving him a small nudge.

"Here comes the general!"

I turned on my heels as we all frantically faced the general and awaited his response.

"What is the meaning of this?!" He roared.

I glanced towards Alexander as his eyes widened, realizing he was in trouble.

"Mr. Burr, get a medic for the General." He commanded as Burr hastily responded before rushing off.

General Washington quickly talked to Charles Lee before he was carried off the field, before turning right in Alexander's direction.

"Hamilton!"

My eyes widened, though the general treated Alexander as one of his own; I knew the consequences to this issue would not be very easy.

"Sir!" Alexander responded and saluted to him, General Washington's eyes narrowed at him.

"Meet me inside." He commanded.

Chatter instantly began once Alex and the general were out of site.

Most men had came to the conclusion that Alexander would be sent home for this, which I didn't believe.

There's no way the general would do that, I mean Alexander was one of his most important aids.

Within 15 minutes Alex came stomping out of the General's tent. John and I stood by the mess tent as he approached us.

"I'm being sent home!" Alexander exclaimed as frustration filled his tone.

"You're kidding." John said with little hope.

I watched Alexander as he grumbled and walked into the tent to pack his things.

"I didn't think Washington would send him home, honestly." I told John in a slight whisper.

John shrugged, "I'm not too surprised."

After Alex had finished packing, we walked with him to the carriage to say our farewells.

"Well, I'll see you all in a few weeks." He said reluctantly.

He, John, and Lafayette said their goodbyes. Then he got to me.

"[Your Name].. I'll miss you." He told me as he stared into my eyes.

I gave him a small smile, "Now, now, Alexander. Don't get too mushy with me." I said jokingly.

He pulled me into a hug. I ,of course, hugged back with my one good arm.

To my surprise, before he fully had pulled away from me, he kissed my forehead. My cheeks instantly became tinted as I tried to search for something to say.

He gave me his signature smirk as he walked over and got into the carriage. "I'll see you all soon." He said then looked back at me, "I'll be writing to you, [Your Name]." He said with a wink before closing the carriage door.

Lafayette and John instantly began to pick on me as we walked back into the camp site.

Though I might have told them it wasn't like that, I hoped it would be.
