"no. what's wrong with her?" taehyung said, becoming alarmed.
the doctor quickly shushed him. "she doesn't seem to remember how she got here—"
"what does that mean?" taehyung asked.
"a few of the doctors here think that she may have a form of amnesia—" taehyung's face slowly drained of its color and the doctor suggested that they sit down. he and jimin helped taehyung to a waiting area and sat down.
"doctor, did you say amnesia? as in, she can't remember anything?" he asked.
"not exactly. she doesn't have a problem with remembering events happening right now which means that she doesn't have anterograde amnesia. however, she doesn't remember how she got here or the day of the accident—"
"so..."
"so, we believe she may have retrograde amnesia which means that she doesn't remember the past." he finished. jimin's jaw was on the floor and taehyung couldn't stop staring at the man.
"we aren't sure how much she doesn't remember. it could just be a few days or a few weeks—"
"is it possible that she doesn't remember me?" taehyung asked. the doctor smiled sadly and didn't respond, letting his silence speak volumes. "she really won't remember me?" he asked, eyes tearing up.
"whoa, we don't know that yet, son. like i said, we don't know how much she has forgotten. she could remember everything up until a week ago." the doctor said. taehyung began nodding and he stood up.
"then let's go find out." he said.
"just try not to overwhelm her, okay? when you walk in there, don't bombard her with questions." the doctor warned. he led the boys back to the room and gently opened the door.
taehyung went into the room feeling uneasy. it became even worse when he saw her sitting in the bed, crying. a nurse was patting her back, begging to stop crying. he knew that he shouldn't just throw himself to comfort jiho but it was difficult to resist.
"are you okay? what's wrong?" he asked carefully. the instinct to come to her rescue was overwhelming but he stood by the door. jimin placed a hand on his back, letting him know that he was still there for him.
jiho looked up at him and blinked. taehyung could hear his heart beating in his ears as he looked back at her.
her head was hurting as she looked at him. it was difficult to explain but she just felt like he was important. jiho looked away from him for a second and put her head in her hands. "are you okay, miss? is your head hurting?" the nurse asked.
taehyung took a step forward and jimin grabbed his shirt. "i think we should give her a second." jimin whispered.
"yeah. it hurts a bit." she mumbled. jiho's hands gently rubbed over her bandages and taehyung watched helplessly. sensing his uneasiness, jimin rubbed his back.
jiho looked back over at him and squinted her eyes, trying to remember something. "could you— could you come a little closer?" jiho asked. taehyung slowly walked closer to the bed and resisted the urge to hug her.
she bit her lip a bit, thinking. it was a nagging, painful feeling. jiho knew that he was... somebody that she used to know.
"do i—" jiho started. her words fell short and suddenly she could imagine him smiling. it was really cute. jiho ended up smiling in reality and his heart fluttered a bit. he wondered if jiho would remember him. he prayed that she would.
"i feel like i should know who you are." she said, still smiling.
