The ending of Matt's adventure.
"What?" I asked harshly once I noticed that he had been staring at me.
I arched my brows and which caused him to raise his brows awkwardly. "Huh?" he diverted his eyes and continued to do his works in his laptop.
And a few minutes after, his eyes flicked to stare at me again. So I took a deep breath. "Yes, what is it that you want to say?" I asked once more, which only made him to choke the air that he inhaled.
He cleared his throat. "I-uh, Wendy..." he gathered his courage to speak up. "W-what's your favourite movie?" he continued to ask with stutters.
I hummed a little. "I can't really choose, but I guess at the moment I'm into Tangled," I answered before a bitter chuckle escaped from my mouth.
"You mean the latest Rapunzel from Disney?"
I nodded my head proudly. "Compare to Frozen, I think Rapunzel is better...not to offend though but Rapunzel tells a true story about love," I explained truthfully. I remembered that night after he called me and told me that he missed me. Right after that call, I went straight to my room and watched the movie alone with a brokenhearted.
"I see...well, what else do you like about the movie?"
It felt like he was interviewing me but I answered him anyway. "The lanterns, I love how the crowds float the lanterns on every of her birthday! The way Flint look at her on that boat was love; they were in love under the lanterns!"
He chuckled lowly. "You sounded like you never seen the lanterns before—" and he assumed correctly. I looked at him with a serious face like I was telling him that he was right. "You never watch the lanterns floating?" he asked.
I shook my head which only caused him to gasp in surprised. "Have you?"
"Yeah, every year..." he carefully said while looking intently in my eyes. "There's a festival called Jinju Namgang Yedueng Festival—well the main events are usually lighting ceremony, floating lanterns on the river, Korean lanterns exhibition, World traditional lantern exhibition, traditional crafted lantern exhibition, hanging wish-lantern—"
"I understand," I cut his explanation and he just blinked his eyes repeatedly. "Well, that's great if you watched it every year," I said with a smile before I continue to read my book.
It was like five minutes silence before he spoke out of sudden. "I wish you were born Korean and I wish we had met early...even though I watch the lantern every year, there's no fun watching it alone."
His words made my heart pounded fast. Yet I just smiled and said; "Well, don't worry...you have your girlfriend, right?"
"I want to watch it with you..."
I lifted my head, just to look at his face—was he serious of what he had said?
My mouth gaped as words couldn't come out from my mind. We just stared into each other's eyes in a long paused.
I took a deep breath before I laughed it off. "Hey, how about we continue our story?" I asked as I stood up from my seat to walk over at him.
"Sure," he replied while watching me sitting down beside him. "Y-you got some ideas?" he asked.
I had no ideas but I kind of thought that it was the only way for us to stop being awkward while staring and saying things about sweet.
So I pulled his laptop closer to me as I went through the Microsoft office. "Alright...the beginning of the ending..." I bit my lower lips as I typed down. "After knowing the story behind the beautiful palace, Matt held his heart and oath to visit whenever he was free..."
The story continued with a little romance of Matt and the princess. Although they were young, they knew quite a lot about love. "They held hands while walking through the narrow pathway. Matt smiled whenever the princess called him by his name; it melted his heart and caused his stomach to flip in elation." I cringed when I read the passage that Jin had typed down.
"Matt gazed into her unrealistic eyes. 'Can you grow older?' he asked the princess. It broke his heart when she shook her head slowly as ever. 'Is there any way to make you grow older?' he desperately asked."
I could imagine the scene where Matt and the princess standing while facing each other. "I'm already dead...I'm forever like this..." it made me even more cringing when I listened Jin saying the word he typed.
We wanted to make a happy ending to the story but it would be very unrealistic if we add some fantasy like spells and witches. So at the end, we decided to add a little sad yet happy ending.
"As years passed, Matt as usual went to the palace to visit his little princess. Suddenly, he spotted a glimmering sword under an apple tree. So he approached it and picked it up. He had thought about it before and he was stern with his decision."
"He stretched his hand and turned the sword's direction to his heart. He smiled. At the same time, he cried. 'I love her...' he whispered before pushed the sword straight into his heart. His knees grew weak as a groan came out from his mouth."
I was too immersed by the story; a tear had fallen from my eye and it was wiped by a warm thumb of the man beside me.
"The princess could feel herself burning in anger—she knew what had happened; she was supposed to be happy but knowing that his death was because of her; it angered her. 'You must've live! I am just a frail ghost! You could marry a real human! A beautiful woman! Not a little girl who couldn't even grow older!' she shouted."
The both of us were excited to finish the story as we kept on typing so fast. "Matt took a step forward as his gaze couldn't leave her eyes. He crouched down to her level and leisurely he leaned his head to kiss her lips with their eyes shut tight."
I kept on clapping my hands silently as I read the ones Jin newly typed. "And while they were kissing, her feet glimmered slowly the lights rose to her body and until her head. Once they opened their eyes to pull away, their lips curled into a smile. They stood up and now it was easier for him to look at her. 'Princess, you're too beautiful,' he said as he caressed her hair."
________
