The Funeral

Harry's POV

I placed a bouquet of yellow roses on Hermione's grave, tears fresh in my eyes.

It was all over.

Nothing would ever be the same.

I walked back, and let Luna place her flowers on the cold, hard stone.

Through my blurred eyes, I saw the Weasley and Granger families, as well as many of the Hogwarts professors.  Professor Dumbledore stood behind them all, his eyes dull and foggy.

Luna, Dean, Seamus, Lavender, Parvati, and almost everyone Hermione knew stood before Hermione's grave.

Hermione's funeral service was being held outside, at a Muggle cemetery nearby.

All classes had been suspended, and a day had been declared off to honor Hermione.

Why Hermione, I thought to myself.

Why not Voldemort or Bellatrix?

Why did I have to lose my parents?  And Sirius?

Luna walked over to where I was standing.  She held my hand as she sobbed.

"Harry," she said.  "I-I'm s-sorry.  About your parents... And Sirius.  Nobody should lose their best friend.  N-not this way."

I looked away from Luna, and let go of her hand.

"I'm sorry, Luna." I said.

Luna looked at me, shocked.

"For what?  I-"

"For ignoring you.  I know you and... Hermione... weren't exactly close...  But I should have comforted you instead.  I know how it feels to lose a friend.  Sirius was not only my godfather, but my friend."

Luna looked at me.

"I think all of Hogwarts is hurting right now," she said.  "Especially... Especially Ron."

There was a pained silence as Ron walked over to Hermione's grave.  Harry could see a tear drop fall from Ron's face.  He quickly wiped it away as he placed a large bouquet of roses on the gray stone.

"I love you, Hermione," he said simply.

He then walked to Harry and Luna.

"Ron...  I'm so sorry."
"Yeah, mate.  You holding up okay?"

Ron bit his lip.

"It's... hard.  Really.  Hermione was the only one I loved, who loved me back.  But... I guess I just have to stay strong."

Luna looked at Ron.

"Ron, Harry and I love you.  Your parents and family love you.  Dumbledore loves you.  All your friends love you.  And wherever Hermione is right now... I'm sure she loves you too."

She gave Ron a hug and pulled away.

Ron smiled.

It would be hard, but they would all have to stay strong.
