Chapter 38

Justin let Maddie stay at the house until they found Darcy. He took her to a room with white walls, white curtains and white bed sheets. She smiled and said thank you. She began to unpack when her phone went off for about the billionth time that day.

Maddie's POV:

I unlocked my phone to see about fifty messages from friends and my family, all telling me how worried they were.
Mom:
Where are you, sweetie?

Dad:
Where are you?

BEST FRIEND 😘:
YO! WHERE R U?

I sighed and sent them all the same, generic message and shut off my phone. I didn't want to be bothered at all. My friend was missing and it was all my fault.

"Maddie!" A raspy voiced yelled.

"Coming!" I ran out of the room and almost bumped into Justin.

"So, you're going to be staying here for a while." Justin said, putting his arm around me and leading me somewhere.

He motioned me to sit at a table with a beautiful center piece of flowers. It was roses. My favorite flower.

"How did you know roses were my favorite flower?" I ask him.

"That's not important right now." He said sternly.

"Do you know where Darcy is?" Another voice said behind me. I turned around and I blinked a couple of times to make sure I wasn't seeing things.

"Fredo?" I asked the man. He nodded then started talking to Justin.

"Maddie!" They both yelled at me.

"What?!" I yell back. Fredo looked angry.

"Do you know where Darcy is?" Fredo said, trying to calm himself. I shook my head no.

"What do you mean you don't know where Darcy is?!" Fredo attempted to grab me but Justin held him back.

"You can't be upset, Fredo. She's only fifteen." He tried to reason with him. He still looked red with anger.

"I want my friend back." He said like I was the enemy.

"I'm not the enemy!" I attempted to grab him as well. Now it Justin's turn to hold me back.
"Would you two CHILL?! IT'S LIKE I'M DEALING WITH TWO CHILDREN!" He screamed at both of us.

"I wanna find her too! Why do you think I'm here?" I ask the two men in front of me. They look at each other. Justin sighed and leaned towards the table.

"Don't screw this up." He whispered into my ear. My body shook in fear but I nodded anyway.

"O-Okay." Is what I said when I found the ability to speak again.

"You can go watch television or something." Fredo said dismissively. I jumped from the table so fast that I couldn't think I could move that quickly.

"I can't believed you scared her like that!" Justin said to Fredo in my defense. I heard a slap and a "ow." I'm not ashamed to say that I smiled at that moment.

"You scared her too, dumbass!" Fredo yelled. I turned up the television to drown out the argument.

"Maddie. Honey. Sweetie." Justin said over the television. I turned it now so I could hear him.
"Yes Justin?" I said innocently.

"Go to your room." He said sweetly. I nodded, turned off the television and went to the bedroom Justin had so graciously set up for me.

As soon as I was out of sight, the argument continued. I put in my headphones and began to write to drown out the argument once again.

*Two Hours Later*

Justin's POV:

Fredo finally stormed off in result of our argument. I went up to Maddie's bedroom and knocked on the door.

"Maddie?" I yell so the sound can through the door.

"Come in!" Maddie allowed me access to the bedroom.

"I'm sorry you had to hear that." I apologized on the behalf of Fredo and of course, myself for the display of inappropriate behavior.

"It's okay." She said and went to hug me. I gladly accepted. Her hair smelled like coconut.

"Goodnight." She mumbled.

"Goodnight." I shut the door.
