"I'm coming. I'm coming," I said as I rushed to the door to see who was there.

I peeked and saw my brother Damian.

I unlocked and opened the door.

"Hey..." I trailed off as I saw the look on his face.

Something's wrong.

"What's wrong?"

His jaw clenched.

"Dami?"

"Katie, it's Dave," he said.

I groaned. "Not you too. Look you guys just need to leave us to figure this all out on our own. Stop trying to meddle. I get it you guys love me, but I'm a grown woman and I can make my own decisions. I don't need you all telling me how—"

"Katie," he tried to interrupt, but I kept going.

"— I can be truly happy if I just—"

"Katie, stop talking," Dami snapped.

"What?"

"Dave got into an accident," he said, I shuddered and my knees gave out. I could have fallen onto the floor, if my brother hadn't caught me in his arms.

I felt like the world has fallen on top of me.

"Katie, I need you to be strong right now. He needs you more than anything and more than anyone," he said.

I nodded numbly.

"We need to go," he said, and I knew.... I knew it wasn't good.

I don't know how I got into his car nor how I got to the hospital, all I knew was that my whole body felt numb.

I saw our family waiting at the waiting room and when they saw me, worry and concern marred their expressions.

My sister Bella came up to me and hugged me fiercely before leading me to an empty seat.

"How bad is it?" I found myself asking.

"We don't know yet," she said.

"It was a hit and run," Nate said. "I've got people on it. Whoever did this is not getting away with it," Nate grounded out.

I nodded numbly.

"Katie..." Dylan started to say as he sat next to me.

"I'm okay," I said automatically.

Everyone in the waiting room was quiet.

Nate, Allan, and Jake paced back and forth.

I don't know how much time has passed, but every second felt like an eternity.

I just want him to be okay. I need him to be okay.

"Here," Dylan said. "Drink this. It will help calm your nerves," he said, handing me some tea.
