"Mom, Dad, look! Look what I found!"
Ash turned around as his daughter, Ruby, came bursting into the house carrying a Pokemon egg. The egg was light blue with white markings that looked like handprints on it. He recognized what type of egg it was; he had seen it once before, when Olympia was telling him about Greninja's past.
"Where did you find that, Ruby?" Serena asked.
"By the river. It was being attacked by a bunch of Spearow, but I saved it and brought it back here," the little six-year-old girl said proudly. "Can we keep it? Please, Mom, can we?"
Serena hesitated for a moment. "I don't know, sweetheart," she began hesitantly, but Ash interrupted her.
"Sure, why not? I'll ask Greninja if he and Delphox can look after it," he said, smiling. Being from different egg groups, Greninja and Delphox couldn't have children of their own and he knew that they would be more than happy to take care of the Froakie egg.
"Yay! Thanks, Dad!" Ruby cheered happily.
Ash chuckled and went off in search of his frog-ninja Pokemon. He finally found him sitting outside with Delphox, Pikachu, and Sylveon. Greninja turned around when he heard him coming, his gaze falling first on Ash, then on the egg in his arms. He looked up at Ash again, a question in his eyes.
"Ash? What do you have that for?" he asked.
"Ruby found this egg down by the river," Ash answered. "She really wants to keep it, and I was wondering if you and Delphox would be all right with taking care of it."
Greninja looked a little taken aback for a moment, but then his eyes softened as he took the egg from Ash's arms. Delphox got up as well and came to look at the Froakie egg as well, reaching out and placing a paw on one of the white markings. They looked up at Ash again and nodded, signaling that they would look after the egg.
Ash breathed a sigh of relief. "Thanks, guys," he said gratefully. "I'll go tell Ruby."
Greninja and Delphox didn't seem to hear him. They were too busy gazing down at the Pokemon egg that had been entrusted to them.
