As luck would have it, the storm didn't let up so they were forced to spend the night at the Pokemon Center. The next morning, Greninja woke up and found himself alone in the room he'd been sharing with Ash and Pikachu. Yawning, he rubbed his eyes and walked into the main lobby, where he found Ash nursing a bloody nose.
"Eh-what happened to you?" the frog-ninja Pokemon asked his trainer.
"I tried to wake you up and you punched me in the face in your sleep," Ash told him ruefully. Next to Ash, Lillie looked as though she were trying not to laugh.
"Sorry Ash," Greninja said sheepishly. Ash just shook his head and laughed.
"Don't worry about it, I'm fine," he assured him, tossing the bloody tissue into the trash can. "Come on, let's eat and then it's off to-"
"See the wizard?" Greninja couldn't resist interjecting.
Ash looked at him strangely. "No, and when did you see that movie?" he asked curiously. Then he shook his head. "Never mind. Anyway, let's eat and then we'll go to the Village of Dragons to get Iris."
After eating a quick breakfast (fortunately for Greninja's stomach, Ash didn't eat any oatmeal this time), the group climbed aboard Charizard and Pidgeot and took off into the sky again. Greninja was actually starting to enjoy flying on Charizard now that he was used to the sharp dives the large dragon-like Pokemon liked to take whenever he went into a descent. Besides, the view was quite nice.
"Look over there!" Pikachu suddenly cried out half an hour later. Greninja looked up sharply, tensing his muscles in case Pikachu had seen one of the Shadow Beasts. But instead, he saw a large dragon-type Pokemon soaring through the sky, most likely in a battle with another Pokemon judging by the flames that were spewing from his jaws. Ash saw what his two Pokemon were looking at and smiled.
"That's the Village of Dragons. We're almost there," he told them.
"That looks like Salamence," Lillie remarked, also looking at the dragon Pokemon.
"All right Charizard, Pidgeot, time to fly down," Ash commanded. He grinned a little at Greninja as he added, "Hold on tight, everyone."
If Greninja's tongue hadn't been too long to do so, he would have stuck it out at Ash. Charizard went into another death-defying dive, the frog-ninja Pokemon holding on for dear life. They finally landed right by a small town that Greninja assumed was the Village of Dragons.
"Wow, this sure brings back memories," Ash remarked as he landed next to Greninja and looked around. "I wonder if the Elder is still around..."
"Hey, Ash! Is that you?" a girl's voice exclaimed.
Greninja and the others turned around to see a girl with bushy dark hair running towards them, closely followed by a Haxorus. Ash grinned when he saw her coming and waved.
"Hey, Iris," he called back. Iris came to a halt in front of Ash.
"Wow, it's so good to see you!" she said happily. "It's been such a long time."
"Yeah, it really has, hasn't it?" Ash agreed, rubbing the back of his neck. He turned to look at Haxorus. "Is that who I think it is?"
Iris beamed. "Yeah, Axew evolved. Isn't it great?" she replied proudly. "So who are your friends, Ash?"
"This is Lillie, I met her in the Alola region," Ash said, gesturing towards his Alola companion. "I'm sure you remember Charizard and Pikachu. Pidgeot here was one of my Kanto Pokemon, and Greninja was my first Pokemon in Kalos."
"Hello," Greninja said, waving at Iris.
"Wow, they all look really strong," the aspiring dragon master said in awe. Ash chuckled and rubbed the back of his neck.
"So how are all your other Pokemon doing?" he asked.
"They're doing great. We finally beat Drayden," Iris said.
"Really? That's awesome!" Ash exclaimed.
"Thanks, Ash," Iris replied. "So what brings you to Unova?"
Greninja and Ash exchanged a grim look. "The attacks," Ash answered after a moment. Iris nodded, suddenly looking grim as well.
"Do you know anything about them?" she asked. "No one has any idea who could be attacking all these Pokemon."
"We do, as a matter of fact. We're on a short mission to round up some of my old friends to help form a resistance," Ash said. "If you want to help, go to Lumiose City in Kalos and ask for the Lumiose gym leader, Clemont. He and his sister, Bonnie, will know where to take you."
"All right, I'm in. I'll see you in Kalos, Ash," Iris said, running off with Haxorus. Greninja watched the two of them disappear from sight before turning back to Ash and Lillie.
"Are we ready to go back to Kalos, Ash?" he asked. He was ready to see his friends again.
Ash nodded and smiled. "Yep, we're going to Kalos next," he said happily. "So come on, let's get going. We've got a long flight ahead of us."
