You live in a world in which when water still it will eternally show the first thing that it reflected after being taken out of either a frozen or boiling state. That's why the sea is blue.

This phenomenon was only truly discovered in space when any water that was created reflected the stars above. It was drinkable -as they found out later on-.

Frozen water would act like a permanent picture (as long as it stayed frozen) whilst normal water would eventually blend in with the dominant colour.

One day they go to Antarctica and discover a picture. In it was a prehistoric person, and something that they had no evidence of its existence, no record of footprints, no nothing. Only a reflection from water created millennia ago.

Person A discovers this and person B is the one studying it in their lab, they end up being assigned together.
