David's P.O.V

I came back with Evelyn's ice cream and found she was no longer there. Confused, I called her cell. No answer. Maybe she did go home. I start going that way. The snow was piling higher faster than I had seen before. Ot was becoming more difficult to walk.

Finally, I managed to make it to her house. I knock on the door and her mom answers. I introduce myself  and she lets me in. We talk a little bit and then I get on to the subjectof her daughter. I ask if she had came home, but her mom said she hadn't seen her walk in. I began to get worried, fearing the worst had happened. I thank her for her hospitality and headed out in search of the girl.

I looked everywhere and could not find her. The snow slowly stopped. I saw a snowflake and imagined Evelyn running to catch it. For some odd reason, I followed where the snowflake went. Soon, I was in the middle of nowhere (that I recognized). Everywhere I looked was only white. Only a small spot in the distance was a different colour. It was red. I get closer trying to figure out what the red was. I see a body.

"EVELYN!! OH G-!!" Her body was frozen and blood stained her chest. "HEEEEELLLPP!!" I scream. I wanted to hold her so bad, but I knew I wasn't supposed to touch her. I dialed 9-1-1 and report her dead body. I was being questioned by the police and answered to the best of my abilities. I told them about us hanging out before she was murdered. They asked if I knew any of Evelyn's family.

"Her mom. She is the only one."

"No father?" I shake my head. They take me with them to break the news. When we told her, her mother could not stop crying. She cried to the point where she was too weak to stand. Later, when the police left, I stayed with her mother and made sure she was feeling alright. She still was sobbing but less.

"She left me a present. She seemed so excited for me to open it." I was confused then remembered the necklace Evelyn had made.

"Why don't you open it now? I'm sure breaking the rules don't apply when something like this happens." I reach under the tree and grab the box. I slowly hand it to Evelyn's mother and she smiles. She takes it in her hand and opens it to reveal the beautiful nacklace Evelyn worked so hard on. Her mom begins to bawl again.

"It's beautiful!"

"She made it herself. She worked really hard on it too."

For the rest of the day, we cried. Her mother wore the necklace and didn't take it off. It was the last thing Evelyn would give her. I was too late. I couldn't give her anything because I was afraid.

My plans to leave town for the holidays were cancelled after my parents heard about her death. Nothing felt the same for the rest of winter.
