Chapter 2

            Christina and I made it to homeroom and into our seats literally a minute before the bell rang. At that point, we sighed simultaneously knowing that our teacher, Mrs. Hellfire, would seriously give us hell if we were late, even on the first day. She did role call, and everyone was here…that is until she got to the last name.

            “Caden Zander?” No one raised their hand. “Caden Zander?!” She repeated. Still no one raised their hand, and everyone was looking around the classroom, trying to find the obvious newcomer. It isn't very often that we have a new student. “Has anyone seen Caden Zander?” No one said a word, so Mrs. Hellfire, realizing he wasn't in here, just went back to her desk muttering about teenagers.

            “Psst!”

            “What Christina?!” I ask her in a hushed whisper.

            “Do you think Caden is the kid you saw in the hallway?”

            “I have no clue...it could be–”

            “Would you ladies like to tell the class what you’re talking about?” Mrs. Hellfire screeched. I cringed at the tone of her voice, before smirking. “Here we go again.” I hear Christina mutter, knowing I’ll have some kind of remark that will probably get us into trouble already.

            “Well...you see miss. You'd think that was pretty obvious by that fact that we were whispering to each other.”

            “Don't you dare think I would hesitate to–”

            She was cut off by the door opening… I wonder who this could be. Ooh, it's probably the new kid, Caden. I think Caden might be my mystery guy... Now that got me zoning out, thinking about the guy staring at me in the hallway. How his black t-shirt showed his muscles, yet kept you wondering how muscular he really was...hearing my name being called brought me back to reality, again.

            “–by Gabrielle right there.”

            I looked around confused only to notice Christina giving me a devious look. When I shot her a questioning look, she shook her head, knowing that I wasn't paying any attention once again. She then shot me a knowing glance saying ‘I know what you’re thinking about,’ and nodded her head to my other side. I looked to my left to see mystery boy, now known as Caden, staring right at me.

            I gave him a quizzical stare and calmly asked why he was starting at me. He didn't respond, just gave me a look like he knew every single thing going through my mind. I rolled my eyes and turned back to Christina with a curious face.

            “What's up?” She asked.

            “Is there something on my face? And is that Caden?”

            “No, why would you think that? And yea, that’s Caden. He’s our new kid!” You could tell she was attempting at being quiet, yet failing. If only one of us would’ve looked at him while we were having this conversation, we would’ve seen his cocky smirk.

            “I ask ‘cause he was staring at me–”

            “Miss Summers, Miss Branch, detention!” Mrs. Hellfire screeched once again, causing our attention to go to her in a split second.

            “What?!” We exclaimed.

            “Since neither of you can keep your mouths closed, you have detention.” She said, crossing her arms in front of her chest, looking smug.

            “But–”

            “Do you want another detention?!”

            “No..” We chorused.

            That’s just great. It’s the first day of school and we already have a detention to attend this Friday. To make matters worse, the period felt endless! Sadly, the period went on with the insane feeling of being watched. Yet, this time I knew where it was coming from...

            Lord, please help me through today, at least…
