-Jack-

"Cindy, are you okay?" Seeing her in pain makes me want to take that knife and stab that son of a bi***. Blake stands up and pushes me to the ground.

"How dare you put her in danger. Why didn't you tell us you had someone looking for you." he gets in my face and I try with all my might not to show weakness. It's something I learned a long time ago; showing weakness made you weak, therefore more vulnerable.

"I didn't know he was following me." I say with just as much force. Blake throws the knife at my side and it misses me by inches. I gasp and so does Cindy.

"It wasn't his fault, Blake. He wouldn't intentionally let that man hurt us, right?" she asks, looking at me.

"Of course not, Cindy." I reassure her, although when it came down to it I'd protect her over Blake.

"If there's anything else you're keeping from us, you better tell us right now or I swear next time, I will kill you without a thought." I shudder at the familiar threat. The thing was, there was nothing I wasn't keeping from them.

"There isn't." I cross my arms and he grunts. Turning to Cindy, I pull out a bandage from my backpack and some medicine.

"Will you let me take care of you?" I ask, holding out the materials. She nods through tear-filled eyes and holds out her arm. Blake groans and turns away.

"I'm sorry he's so mean." Cindy says and I look into her eyes. A beautiful blush fills her cheeks and she smiles lightly.

"He just loves you, that's all." I say, trying not to let jealousy creep into my voice. She nods and winces as I rub the medicine on her wound.

"Sorry." I mutter, and wrap the bandage tightly. A small voice in the back of my mind scolds me. You're going soft for a girl you've just met. That was your last bandage. You could get infected and die and for what? A girl who already has a boyfriend.

"What's wrong?" she says and I realize I'm scowling at my own thoughts.

"Nothing, just thinking." I say and she nods. Maybe this is the kind of person I want to be. Nobody has ever done anything nice for me my whole life, so maybe I just want to do nice things for people. I nod at that thought and decide to stick with that.

"You done?" Blake's voice comes from right behind me and I jump.

"Yes, now let's get going before he wakes up." I say, looking nervously at the man.

     "Let's go, then."

     -Cindy-

My arm hurts like crazy, but surprisingly doesn't bother me too much after Jack fixed it up. I walk hand in hand with Blake, Jack behind us. For the past four hours, Blake has been treating Jack like dirt. We stopped to eat and he wouldn't let him eat with us, and when we took a break, he made him sit as far from us as possible. It bothers me a bit, but I honestly like having alone-time with Blake.

"I love you." he says and I smile, like I always do when he says that.

     "I love you too."

"It's getting dark." Jack calls, but we ignore him.

Two hours later we're still walking and my feet feel like they're about to fall off. We just walked out of a sporting goods store to buy a tent and overnight supplies like blankets, sleeping bags, and a small portable heater.
