-Cindy-

Jacks face shows nothing but annoyance. I feel a small sinking feeling that he doesn't find me attractive like most guys do. If I'm being honest, I'm perfect.

We reach the rental store and Blake walks in.

Jack and I wait outside and he avoids my gaze.

"So what exactly is the plan?" he asks and I relish the sound of his low, smooth voice, and want to say anything to hear it again.

"I'm not sure. Blake's the one in charge here." he rolls his eyes and I smile. "He's not such a bad guy. I love him." I say, looking through the window at him as he talks to the man at the desk.

"Sure." he mutters. I get angry and put my hands on my hips.

"Excuse me?" I say. He looks me up and down like he's trying to decipher my body language.

"I said sure." he replies calmly.

"Sure? What is that supposed to mean?" I say angrily. He doesn't smile but his lips twitch like he wants to.

"It means that you don't look at him like you love him, or talk to him like you do. Are you sure you love him? Or is that just you being happy you have a boyfriend?" he looks me right in the eye and I fight the urge to slap him. How bold is he, accusing me of not loving Blake after only about an hour of knowing me?? Well do you love Blake? a voice in the back of my mind asks. I hesitate before answering myself. Of course I do. And he loves me. Again I feel myself hesitate.

Before I can say anything to Jack, Blake comes storming through the door, nearly breaking the glass as he slams it shut.

"Someone called and cancelled our reservations. They gave the car to someone else." he growls, glaring at Jack like it's his fault.

"Well it wasn't me." he says, shrugging. "Maybe you have the wrong place." he suggests. Blake gets right in his face and grabs his arm.

"I do not have the wrong place." he spits and to my surprise, Jack cringes away from him like he's....afraid. Blake shoves him and he stumbles but doesn't fall.

"It was just a thought." he mutters, glaring at Blake's back. I look at Blake, eyebrows raised. He usually isnt an extremely violent person; he gets along with everyone.

"What? This kid annoys me." he says.

"So what do we do now?" I ask.

"Train, plane, bus, bike, hike, hitchhike." Jack counts the possibilities off on his fingers, acting like he's thinking really hard. I scowl at his sarcasm but can't help a small smile. He winks at me and turns to Blake.

"No, no, no, no, no, and absolutely not." Blake counts them on his fingers in a rude imitation of Jack.

"So what? We're going to magically transport ourselves there?" I say sarcastically. Only witches and wizards over the age of 21 can do that and survive.

     "No, we'll walk." Blake says.

"Yeah, hike." Jack says, wiggling his finger at Blake. I laugh out loud but Blake raises his hand as if to strike Jack. He flinches again and backs away.

"Sorry. Walk. Great idea, Blake." he says nervously and Blake just mumbles something under his breath and starts walking.

"All the way there?" I complain.

"Oh, it's just across a few states. I'll carry you if you ever need it." Jack says, and because he never smiles I can't tell if he's kidding or not.

I hope not. I think, and follow them.
