it was a regular, old basement. nothing seemed peculiar in any way shape or form. her feet trailed the floorboards preventing her from tripping over them. the light string brushed against her hand making her grasp it making everything more visible to the eye. she looked around making mental notes on her surroundings. she pondered towards a pile of boxes finding vintage paintings scattered around held in intricate frames.

'are you kidding me!?' she said at the sight of a piece of paper curling out of a frame. she was getting sick of these games that this 'anonymous' kept repeatedly playing. she snatched it out of its home and hunched over in boredom to read it.

' watch your step, don't want to trip - Anonymous '

her face scrunched up in confusement.  there was nothing she could see that was strange so she headed back to the stairs. on the way, something caught her foot. her eyes shuffled towards the ground noticing out of place floorboard.

' ha! you really think you could trip me up with an old-----' her sarcasm was disturbed by cracking underneath her feet which was the sniggering of the floorboards that were yet to be splinters of broken wood. every sharp noise increased the redness in her face accompanied by her racing heartbeat that shortened her breath until she was drowning in air.

it gave way, breaking the floor and the tension. her hesitation took too long. she fell through the floor being hugged by the coldness while being blinded by her hair. she scrambled until a painful cry echoed up to the top.

' well! is this what you wanted hmm? you've caught me! okay? ' she said to thin air,  hoping someone in particular would hear. her wish came true; someone did hear her. a balloon drifted down the crater she had made and rotated so she could view the writing finally not written in red.

' hey, neighbour! look at how happy we are! ' it said in jagged capitalks. she pivoted around the room looking for something that would help her understand what it meant but she got nothing
