she sank back into the wall facing the basement door. was it really hers in the photo? she scanned the image once more before screenshotting it before attempting to delete the post and as she expected, it didn't work. she just sat there until she felt goosebumps across her arms caused by a draft filling the room from outside. she had checked all the and door were locked prior to getting something to eat for breakfast because she was paranoid to an extreme extent she was hyperventilating. soon after, the draft was accompanied by an awful stench that was new to her.
as it got stronger it became harder to bare so she wandered aimlessly around her house looking for the source. it was difficult because it had already had time to diffuse into all the air around her. she walked towards the kitchen door and came to a sudden stop. her face was confused and turned into an annoyed expression along with a frustrated sounding groan. it was the basement. it had to be. she predicted it to be there but she tried to avoid it because it's something she was dreading.
her arm extended far with her being the farest she could from the door. it abridged and it slowly opened with a loud creak that echoed down the concrete staircase. it hadn't been opened for god knows how long and the hinges let off a few crumbles of rust fall to the floor by her feet.
she jumped as a small paper fell from an old coat pocket that was hung up on a peg. she sighed as she realised how stupid it was that she was scared by a piece of paper! she unfolded it to reveal a photo. it was assumed to be recently printed because the ink had transferred onto her fingers taking colour off of it. she recognised the people in the photo, it was her neighbours Christmas card from last year. she turned it over and saw the words ' come and find us 'written in red...again. she rolled her eyes to the sight of the third occurrence of this 'red; theme going on and was getting a bit old in her opinion. along with the note, there was an arrow pointing down. she glimpsed down the stairs and into the black void. she took a deep breath and muttered to herself that she could do it. she took the first stair with her right foot while clenching her nostrils so she wouldn't take in the lingering smell burning her airways.
