Rachel's P.o.v.
I stretched my arms out yawning. I fell asleep thinking about the news. I couldn't help but feel bad for the poor boy. Although, he seems to look an awful lot like the guy on the bus. I got up and trudged around the apartment in my slippers.
Val was sitting on the couch eating a bowl of cereal, her eyes glued to the tv screen. "Val, I'm so sorry for exploding on you again.." I apologized truthfully.
"Its okay, I know you keep things bottled up and need to let it out sometimes." She smiled. We got distracted by my phone ringing.
"Hello?" I answered.
"Yes, is this Rachel speaking?" A familiar voice asked.
"Yes." I replied starting to grow nervous.
"Well, this is Dr. Sanchez and I would like to inform you that we will be looking forward to working with you." She said making my gasp and jump up and down excitedly.
"Thank you Dr. Sanchez, I will not fail you. I promise." I said hanging up and going over to Val.
"I GOT THE JOB!!" I yelled making her stand up and hug me tightly shaking me around.
"Congrats, I knew you would get it!" She screamed.
I couldn't stop smiling until I realized, I forgot to ask her when I start... Gosh, Rachel. You had ONE job! ..literally..
I grab my phone and dial her number again. "Sorry to bother you again, Dr. Sanchez. I forgot to ask you when I start?" I asked hearing her let out a laugh.
"I knew you were forgetting something. Technically, you won't start for a good few weeks only because, we don't have any patients available at the moment. So, come in today if you'd like to get a tour." She answered.
"Okay, I'll see you later. Thank You again, Dr. Sanchez." I said hanging up.
I went to my bathroom and took a shower careful in picking out my clothes. Even though, I got past the interview. I still want to impress and look professional.
I picked out a baby blue bodycon skirt, a normal white t-shirt, a baby blue blazer, and a pair of baby blue toms. This isn't really my style but, hopefully they have a nice uniform I can use. Eventually, I'm going to run out of clothes because, I don't really dress professionally on the daily. I also can't necessarily afford it.
I grab my purse and head out to the bus station. I hope the guy is there today... Wait, what am I even saying? I can barely look at the guy and here I am wishing he was there as if I was going to talk to him.
I go up the steps inserting the coins and sitting in my seat. I slyly take a glance to my right to see if he was there. Yes! He's here. I admired how he dressed so casually but still made it look like he put effort. I mean not that I would know if he puts effort in his outfits because, it's not like I talk to him or anything.
His fingers tightly holding the pencil as he focused on what he was doing. I wish I knew what he did in that leather brown book of his. He could probably be an undiscovered artist at its finest.
I get up to walk off the bus. I stare ahead of me as the words 'A s y l u m for the mentally ill'. All the letters of asylum illuminated except the 'y'. I got chills but shook them off. I took a step forward and breathed in deeply before, mustering up courage and walked up to the large metal doors.
I hesitated to knock before bringing up my hand to do so. An eye looked through the peep hole and unlocked several locks. "Hello, Rachel." Dr. Sanchez greeted allowing me inside.
"Not to sound rude or anything but... I thought I was going to have an office and work at your offices?" I asked in confusion.
"You see, the thing is that we don't exactly have room in our offices and we are running low on our staff here at the asylum." She explained as we walked around.
I heard screaming coming from down the hall. Dr. Sanchez went over to a button and held onto it. "Code Red! A patient has escaped their room!" Her voice boomed through the loud speaker.
Soon after, a man came running through the hall as nurses chased after him. One of the nurses however seemed to catch up to him and stabbed a needle in his arm. They laid the man on the stretcher tying him down, as he wiggled around trying to loosen it.
Dr. Sanchez must've noticed my terrified expression because, she laughed quietly. "Don't worry, you won't get a patient like that just yet. Here, I'll show you where you'll be working." She said leading me over to a room labeled, 'Nurse'.
She opened the door revealing a room with a bed, two chairs, and a desk piled with papers. "Since you are fairly new, we have no patient to assign for you. So, we will have you filing papers and other things. We should have a new patient in by perhaps another month or two." She explained.
I nodded my head and she showed me around the whole asylum except the last ward, Ward 4. "Why aren't we going into ward 4?" I asked curiously.
"Trust me, you don't want to go in there. That's where we hold the craziest of the crazy. Murderers, schizophrenics, you name it." She trailed off making me grow nervous of even breathing the same air.
All in all, I somehow felt like I would be capable of taking care of someone in that ward. I don't know who, but I just feel like I would.
"Well, that's it for your tour today. You start working here tomorrow at 8 am." She said.
"Wait, do I need a uniform?" I asked.
"Ah, yes. Thank you for reminding me. Here's your uniform. If you forget to wear it one day. Just hope we don't have any patients running around." She said seriously.
I gulped and took the tightly sealed package in my hands. "Don't worry, I will make sure I wear the uniform everyday." I pledged.
I walked out the doors feeling slightly spooked. I sighed in relief once I realized I was not going to deal with any crazy patient. But, then again I kind of want a challenge.
I waited for the bus once again with a different mindset. I was going to find out where he always goes off to. The curiosity is killing my insides. When the bus arrived, I dropped in a few coins and sat in my seat. I glanced over at him to check if he was on. Which, thankfully he is.
I skipped my bus stop and it was now his turn to get off. I waited for him to stand up to tell the bus driver I was going to go after him. I quietly walked behind him waiting for him to be a few feet apart.
I get off the bus and hide behind a bush. He took long strides as he walked up to a lightpost sighing. He took out a piece of paper and stapled it on.
Once his back was facing me, I stood up to follow him. I was hot on his trail but, I somehow lost him. Weird.. I shrug and walk up to the lightpost looking at the paper he stapled.
It was not paper, but in fact a flyer. I read the bold words saying, 'Ethan Grant Dolan Missing', if found please contact the number below. 135-687-9240
I gasped recognizing the face of the young man. He was the one on the news yesterday. I take the flyer off the lightpost and fold it tucking it into my purse.
I called Val to pick me up because, I was on the other side of town. I certainly knew, I would not be able to walk all the way to the apartment complex.
