Alexis, Chapter 11

‘OMG, Holly has actually tried alcohol,’ said Ruby. She took a bottle of vodka and downed it. Some WKD, Smirnoff and more booze stood in the corner.

‘Hey you’ve not tried it yet, Alexis,’ slurred Gemma. She was already drunk. She stumbled forward and handed me the bottle. I took a small sip. ‘Is that all?’ It wasn’t that bad. I drank some more. I wanted more. Soon I had finished the whole bottle. I was feeling a little… careless. People around me looked a little distressed. They seemed to be trying to talk to me. I saw Holly, looking upset. I didn’t care anymore. No one could get past my wall. I just felt like doing nothing else but enjoying myself at the party. Soon the song, “Sleep all day, and party all night” came on and all I could do was dance. I danced and drank all night, until midnight, when Ruby’s mum came to pick us up. We were staying over. I blacked out somewhere between the house and the car.

It was light when I woke up. I looked around. I was lying on a sofa, and I felt as though someone was banging around looking for stuff inside my head. I yawned, I was feeling dizzy and sick. I stumbled across to the sink and threw up. I saw that Gemma was lying on the floor alongside Ruby covered by a blanket. I looked at the clock on the wall. Twelve ‘o’ clock noon. Mum would be picking me up in two hours. I felt awful. I really couldn’t be bothered with anything so I just went back to sleep on the sofa.

By the time I woke up again, it was five to one. My headache was a bit better. Soon I realised that Gemma and Ruby were both awake. They were staring at me.

‘What?’ I mumbled.

‘Ermm… you tell her,’ said Ruby.

‘No, you,’ replied Gemma.

‘Tell me what?’ I said.

‘Well, you know the party,’ said Ruby.

‘Thing is,’ said Gemma, ‘Well, Mike, he kind of got drunk.’

‘And Holly’s secret was spilled,’ finished Ruby. Sh#t.

‘No. You are joking,’ I said, tonelessly.

‘It’s no joke. It’s spread over Facebook like wildfire,’ sighed Ruby.

‘FACEBOOK?!’ I exclaimed.

‘Yep. Facebook,’ said Ruby.

‘This is big. Very big,’ said Gemma.

‘This is serious. Very serious,’ I said sincerely.

‘Well, what can we do?’ said Gemma. It was a rhetorical question. There was nothing we could do.

‘Half these people on Facebook don’t even have proper privacy settings!’ I shouted angrily.

‘I know,’ said Ruby.

‘Holly is in danger. Proper big. Proper bad,’ I said, ‘I’m looking at these posts on my phone. Now.’ Ignoring my hangover, I grabbed my IPhone 4s and went on Facebook. It was no joke. It was all over my news feed. I looked at the posts; most just said, OMG, OMG, have you heard this BIG gossip?? Like for me to inbox it you, but some said, I can’t freaking believe Holly is hiding from a murderer! One caught my eye though. It said: Holly Parker is hiding from Michael Dowger. This is huge, posted by Sam Johnson. Sam! He is a real idiot. Even more of an idiot was Millie Jackson, who had commented, where the **** does she live? And that stupid John Smith, who replied, somewhere on Plum Close, I heard. Why? Why? Why? Why? Why freaking tell the b!t#h? I was SO angry. I grabbed my bag and chucked it across the room. Then I realised.

All this was my fault.
