Before School
El's P.O.V.
We were out of eggos. Mike said we had to get ready for something called "school," but I
couldn't accept starting a day without them. I got dressed into some comfy pants things Nancy
had picked out for me the other day and ran my hands through my tangled hair. Mike had
disappeared, so I had to search for him to tell him about the eggo problem. Nancy had already
left and Mike's mom was arranging clothes in an odd fashion. I didn't dare bother her.
As, I walked around upstairs my feet sunk into the carpet with every step and I tried to be quiet,
even though I had no reason to be. Finally, I heard a sort of splashy sound coming from a small
room. It reminded me of bad memories of the bath, but I went in anyway because the door was
partially open, enough for me to squeeze through. Mike's voice was recognizably coming from
behind a blanket sectioning off a part of the room. He was singing and I enjoyed hearing the
words spill from his lips. I didn't really want to interrupt him. Still, I gently tugged on the
rough material of the blanket, pulling it aside. Mike screamed and I was quite confused.
"Mike, I need eggos. There is no more," I proceeded to explain.
He yanked the blanket away from me.
"Mike?" I said. Maybe I had done something wrong.
"Eleven," he started, hidden behind the blanket now. I knew this was serious because he called me by my full name.
"I'm showering, which is when you wash up, and when this happens, you don't move that curtain over," he told me.
Curtain?
"I just wanted Eggos," I said softly.
"I know. You still have a lot to learn. It's okay. Just, uh...did you, uh...see anything?" he questioned.
It didn't make sense at first, but then it clicked. He wasn't dressed. This must be like when
I tried to take off my shirt that one time. Privacy.
"No...I'm..I'm sorry," I muttered. I felt really bad and quickly rushed back to my fort.
I wasn't hungry anymore.
Mike's P.O.V
Shit. That was embarrassing, but I think I was a little harsh on her on accident.
After I hopped out of the shower and finished getting ready for school, it was my first priority
to head downstairs to El. She was in her bed and almost looked like she had been crying.
Without thinking, I wrapped her up in my arms and she quivered. I could feel her tears adding up
on my shirt. When she looked back up at me, I kissed her on the forehead lightly. I was feeling as
bad as she was. We both made mistakes, but hers was much more just, considering she is still
adjusting.
"It's okay," I said. I couldn't stand seeing her so upset.
"Promise?" she asked back.
"Promise," I told her. We sat together until it was time eat. Turns out we had eggos after all.
