Mike's P.O.V
The car ride was not as awkward as I had expected it to be and thank God for that. We still held
hands. The radio still played, calmly. It was okay. I had just vowed to myself to always make sure
the eggos were visibly available. Whether El had learned her lesson or not, I didn't want to take
my chances.
At School (still same P.O.V)
El seemed intrigued by the girl with red hair. Every detail of the girl, her freckles, her ocean blue
eyes, lead El one step closer to her. I was afraid that El would be shy in such an unfamiliar place,
but she was never a person to ignore any tingle of curiosity that she contained.
The red-head surprised me too, because when El hugged her in a way of introduction, she did
not pull back as most would.
"I'm Ella," El said. (Mrs. Wheeler wanted her to be Ella at school, just to exempt any question about her "full name")
"Sadie," the red-head, now with a name, responded. I knew she was new to Hawkins. It's a small
town, so newcomers definitely stand out. I was now responsible for showing not one, but two,
girls around school. Morning classes went by fairly slowly, considering I only had a couple with
El and the rest of the time I was wondering how she was hanging in. Luckily, Sadie was there to
keep her company a good portion of the day because they had more classes in common.
By being friends with El, Sadie was automatically welcomed in our friend group. We weren't
exactly "popular" either, so it was nice having another person we knew we could trust to not
trip us in the hallways. Ugh, Troy. But the other good news; Sadie knows how to play D&D!
That's a first among any girls we've met. Hopefully she will help me with teaching El.
The school day was running smoothly, considering, until, you guessed it, Troy, decided to drop in.
If there was anyone to recognize El from her visit a few months ago, it was him, and let's just say
she wasn't exactly thrilled to see him either. She had spotted him during first period and shot
him a glare, to say the least. We were walking to a class we had together and El was swinging
our interlocked hands. I couldn't help but chuckle, quietly. Troy just had to crash the party and
run between us, so we would have to let go.
"Whatcha laughin' at, Wheeler? Did your freaky girlfriend fart or something?" he teased.
Oh no, he was not gonna bring El into this. I thought he would've learned his lesson from her by
now, but I guess not.
"Well, at least I have a girlfriend in the first place," I shot back.
El smiled and I realized what I had just said. I couldn't think about it too much, then, though.
Troy wasn't too used to my confidence. This was only the second time I had actually said
something back to him. His eyebrows furrowed together as if he was having some sort of mental
struggle. Maybe he was. Maybe I was winning for a moment. But it was short lived. Something
inside him seemed to snap. He lunged toward El to grab her, still thin, wrist and held on to it for
dear life. I had told her to avoid using her powers in school, so she looked torn on what to do.
I couldn't just watch this all happen, of course. I grabbed on to the hoodie he was wearing, in an
effort to pull him off her. His knuckles met my face before I had even gotten him on the
ground.
Darkness.
Author's Note
This chapter was really crappy, but I wanted to get something out there for you guys. Writing them at school is kind of tough for me for some odd reason. Don't be surprised if I do time skips throughout the weeks in the story. Sorry for the cliffhanger, but are you guys excited for the "makeshift snowball"? It's coming up. Promise.
