~Chapter Ten~ A Mess

This is such a late update after my cliffhanger, so I'm not going to proofread. I apologize!

Karen's P.O.V.

Here goes nothing.

It felt like I had sandbags attached to my feet as I climbed up our stairs. Now that the "Troy

situation" was dealt with, I need to tell them.

I knocked on the door to Mike's bedroom. Once. Twice. Three times.

"Michael? Eleven?," I called. My mouth was nearly pressed against the door, completely.

Mike's P.O.V.

"What is it Mom?" I asked, a hint of exasperation lined my voice.

"I need to come in." She didn't even let me reply before turning the door knob and walking in.

El and I both stared up at her, cautiously. The two of us had a way of reading people and

something was, obviously, up. She took a seat at the edge of my bed, eating up

the remaining space left.

I felt claustrophobic, as bad as that may sound.

"You have to promise me you can't freak out," she explained to us, but I knew it was directed more towards me.

"Mom, you know I can't do that," I told her. Her eyes traveled to the carpet.

"Well, just try for me. Okay?" she paused, but I didn't fill the gap with any answer.

"El...She has to go to Dustin's," she said.

"Yeah, that's fine. What for? I'll come too," I replied. This didn't seem like that big of a deal, contrasting to my mom's behavior.

"No, honey. You don't understand." she told me.

"What is it then? Just tell me." I felt like I was almost shouting. Hopefully, I wasn't.

"El has to stay with Dustin. Permanently," she stated blankly.

As if on command, El started to cry.

"Mom, you can't do that! That's a bunch of bullshit," Now, I really was shouting.

"Michael!"

"Don't!" My voice cracked in the middle of the harshness of that word.

This whole room was a mess. El's tears. My mother's decision. My shouting, cracking tone.

A mess.

"Mike, I have all the right to do this and you know it! You dropped El on me. Do you think I was expecting it? I have you and Nancy to keep track of." She was shouting too now, but not as loud as me.

"I'm sorry I did that to you. I just...I love her. Okay? I said it," The words tumbled out of my mouth to the point where I nearly thought they had come out in the wrong order.

Now both my mom and El looked at me.

And for once I couldn't read their expressions.

Author's Note-

Hello there everyone! I'm sorry this long awaited chapter was so short. I just needed it to be like that. Still, I hope you enjoyed this and won't all kill me. Oops
