The next month went by in a blur, I ended up dropping out of high school and finishing my GED online. It was much easier that way than sitting in school. Instead of sitting in classes for another year and a half I 'graduated' in two months. I was able to pick up more hours at the diner and opened an actual bank account so that I would make money off of interest before I knew it I had saved over $2,000. I couldn't wait for June. V and I talked on the phone every night about any thing and everything, and we decided that we'd meet at the falling in reverse tent at warped tour. Because of how busy I was, taking classes while my dad was at work, working while he was home and not getting home until he was asleep we didn't have any problems, and barely saw each other.
"Red," Dylan said coming into my room, "I'll sell you my car for $500 I'm broke and I need drug money."
I thought for a second before replying.
"Sure, take me to the bank and I'll withdraw the money right now, while we're there you can sign over the car title."
As much as I didn't want to fuel his drug habit, this was a perfect chance for me to have a better means of escape and if he didn't get money from me he'd probably steal some from somewhere else. Besides his car was perfect, a four by four hard top jeep, four wheel drive, plenty of room for all the stuff I needed to take and I could even sleep in it if I didn't have enough money for a place to stay. Plus it was only 3 years old, it would last for a long time, he was quite an idiot for not asking for more money but I guess he thought that's all I have.
"Hello, miss Sterling, how can I help you?" Asked the lady at the front desk when we arrived.
"I'm good Mary, I'm actually here for two things, I need to withdraw $500 and my brother is going to sign over his car title."
"Okay here's the paper work for the car," she said handing me some sheets, "you can start filling them out while I go get your money."
I helped Dylan fill out the paperwork as he wasn't the brightest person I knew, and he didn't know shit about money or the legalities of buying or selling a car. When we were done I gave him an envelope with the money in it, he handed over the keys and I drove him home. He cleaned all of his makeshift bongs, alcohol bottles, and heroine syringes out of the car and I Febrezed the shit out of the car so it no longer smelled like a trap house. I called V a little early to tell him the good news.
"V?"
"Hey Red, what's up is everything okay?"
"Actually no..." I said faking a scared voice.
"Is everything okay do you need me to call the police? Did your dad hit you?" He asked all in one breath.
"Relax V, I meant everything's great," he let out a sigh of relief, "my brother sold me his car, and I've got enough money saved up to keep me stable for a couple of months."
"That's great Red!" He said pausing, "how did you convince him to sell you the car?"
"I didn't have to, he needed drug money and he offered to sell me the car."
"You gave him drug money?"
"If I didn't buy the car he probably would've mugged someone and where else was I gonna get a car?"
The line was silent for a moment before I heard his voice again, "that's a good point, I'd rather you have a car and some innocent person not be mugged," "even if it means he is doing drugs."
We talked for another hour before I could hear someone talking to V on the other line. They said something like, "Rem, we're on," I missed the last part of what they said, but before I could ask who it was V hastily said, "love you, got to go bye."
Love you? Did I hear that right?
~V's pov~
Shit. Love you? What was I thinking?? She probable thought I was a freak... god I need to think before I speak next time.
