June 5th

I had packed and re packed my belongings countless times. I was going to leave some things behind but I was bringing most of my clothes, shoes, and other garments. I was bringing my cd collection and I had all of my posters tucked safely in my old art portfolio. It was time to go. I looked back at my near empty room. I had taken what I needed and what held sentimental value, and sold the rest online, it helped me make an extra $1,000. All that was left was my mattress laying on the floor and a few stuffed animals in the closet. I had already put everything I was taking in my car. I didn't know whether I should leave a note or not. I decided to leave one for my dad, I would tell Dylan that I was leaving. I wrote him a letter saying that I loved him no matter what he had done to me, but I needed to be on my own and make my own life. I knocked on Dylan's bedroom door.

"Come in!" He called.

"Hey Dylan, i just wanted to come and say goodbye."

"What do you mean say good bye?"

"I'm moving out, I'm gonna leave before dad gets home, I have some money saved up and I just can't live here anymore."

"I get it," he started, "I'm sorry."

"It's not because of you Dylan, it's because of dad. I'll come and visit you, take you out to lunch but only you."

He got up off of his bed and embraced me.

"I'll miss you Red, take care, I love you."

He hadn't told me he loved me since our Mom left. I let a tear slip down my face squeezed his had and said, "I love you too."

He clapped me on the shoulder, took my last suitcase out of my hand, and walked down the stairs, going outside and loading it into the car.

"I'll see you!" I called driving off.

I was free. I was finally free. I could get away from this stupid town full of stupid people and leave my asshole dad behind. I put in a black veil brides cd and cranked up the stereo.

This is New Year's Day! So rise from the ashes, faith will find a way! Like lightning crashes, we'll keep marching on and on and on, it's New Year's Day! So rise from the ashes.

I sang along remembering the first time I had heard this record. Wretched and divine. I had been awestruck to find out how good Jinxx was at playing the violin. About an hour later I was at the spot where warped tour would be taking place the next day. I parked under a large, shady tree and went to look around. The main stage had been set up but people were scrambling to get the side stages set up before the sun went down.

"Need any help?" I asked, walking up to a man who's hands were overflowing with boxes of equipment.

"That'd be great!" He said with a smile.

I took a box from him and followed him to one of the half set up stages. I ended up helping them until the sun went down, we got everything set up.

"Thank you so much for helping, I'm Bryan." He said shaking my hand.

"I'm Red, and it's no problem I'm glad i had something to do."

"I'll tell you what Red, the stage crew is going out to dinner, you wanna come?"

"I'd love to." I said smiling.

He brought me to a group of young men and women and introduced me. When he told them that I'd been helping out all day they were impressed, he mentioned bringing me to dinner, but one of the girls scowled at me.

"She's not a part of the stage crew so she can't come to dinner."

Bryan's jaw dropped as he stared at her, "she helped all day-"

"I'm aware," she interrupted, "I was going to ask her if she wanted a job with us, I mean then it'd be fine for her to come with us to dinner."

A smile broke across my face, "I'd love to!"

"Well then the job's yours, I'm Jennifer, I'll be your boss." She reached her hand out and I shook it.

This was great I had a job, I got to go to warped tour, I was meeting V tomorrow, everything was good. We went to dinner and had a really good time, they were all super nice.

Jennifer turned to me, "you can stay in my hotel room tonight if you want."

"You don't have to do that it's fine, I can sleep in my car."

"In your car?"

"Well yeah I just left my hometown for the first time so I've got everything in there anyway, I'm kinda running away, creating my own life."

She looked surprised, "I thought you had it all together. You seem super mature, who are you running from, abusive boyfriend, husband?"

"No, I'm actually 18, I'm running from my dad." I replied.

"Wow you're really mature for your age," she said, "are you going to live with your mom?"

"No my mom left us when I was little, so I'm on my own, I saved up some money and I guess now I found a place with you guys, at least for the summer."

"Okay well we'll go back to the park and get your car so you can come stay with me."

"Thanks Jen, that's actually the nicest thing anyone's done for me."

"Hey it's no problem, you seem cool, I'm just glad I have someone to hang out with now."
