Let me tell you a story
About a time not too long ago
That I met a man
Of a name you might knowHe was called the midnight man
And had a painted smile
He lived in my brain
And had thoughts that were vileWith every step
And every thought
He would pull me in further
To the life most had forgotHe told me once
If I kept my eyes closed
I'd be one blink closer
To my nighttime dozeIn the daylight he slept
In the midnight he flourished
Running in dreamland
Keeping my mind nourishedHe was a good friend
But demons slept in his head
And when I would enter slumber
They would enter my mind insteadI would awake in fear
Haunted my night terrors
And he would remind me
That every burden needs a bearerAnd in daylight I was depressed
During the night I was dead
And it didn't take long
Till I put a bullet in my head.
