We'll use our mouths to curse instead of spilling poetry,
Barricade our hearts in defence only to end up shutting out beauty
Shame the promiscuous but also sneer at chastity
If only, if only, if only we could see past the destruction and brutality
Say we value loyalty above all, but then go ahead and justify infidelity
Oppress and label genders, races, religions but then preach about equality
Talk about trust issues but swallow what the media sells without hesitancy
If only, if only, if only we could mean the things we say and act accordingly
Why we cannot see that we have the power to paint this world in a new light is beyond me
And why can't we understand that it helps to give bits of our hearts instead of a piece of our mind occasionally
If only, if only, if only we could see that we are but a speck in an infinite galaxy
Then perhaps we'd all take a step back, evaluate and get off our high and mighty
