Today, we were told to meet in the arena area for a special challenge. I'm not sure exactly what they are planning for us to do, but I will be ready for whatever they throw at me. We all get ready as a group and head out to the plain white building. We line up along the walls and wait for instruction from Ian, whose smug face is glancing over everyone's bodies.
"Mornin' contestants. It seems like a handful of you are missing today. I wonder why?" Ian says with an insensitive comment. Some girls are getting aggravated from his arrogant way of addressing us and he notices this. "Calm your tits, girls. You all have your first day off, be grateful."
A day off? Why the heck are we here then? If we really do have a day to ourselves, why would they want all of us in here? There has to be something going on. I don't buy Ian's crap.
"Today, you will all compete for resources for this week. You will all do some challenges to see who gets various advances in their cabins. You can only compete in one activity and the winner will receive these advantages or items." Ian walks over to a table with unfamiliar items and familiar ones. "The first activity is a race. Whoever crosses the line first after three miles of running will win a new outfit. We had invited a designer along to create whatever you want, so if you are the lucky one to win, you can let your imagination run wild."
Ana's face lights up brighter than the sun when it was first created in the darkness of space. Her face contorts from excitement to pure evil. She is way too focused on this challenge...
"Next we have a hanging challenge. You all will be hanging from this bar here," Ian points to something cylindrical on the ceiling with a net on the bottom. "The one who can hang the longest will win a meal with two people of her choice. Don't worry, there is a net to catch all the losers since this is not an actual challenge."
"The last challenge is an archery challenge like the last competition since all of you sucked ass last time." Ian grimaces at the memory of our terrible aim. Well, almost everyone's aim was bad. Mine was perfect, I just chose to be bad to save a friend. This could be my shot to prove how good I actually am since it is just a mini challenge and nobody's life is on the line.
"The winner of this will win sanitary items. Toothbrush, hairbrush, shampoo, conditioner, and other items I couldn't care to memorize before coming here." Ian waves this off like it is nothing, but it is everything to me. What's the point of new clean clothes if I stink? Though, my clothes will stink still but we have to start somewhere.
"Take a moment to think of what you want to compete in and go into the assigned rooms for the challenge. The rooms are marked with symbols to guide you to the right spot while the hanging challenge is in this room. Please hurry, I don't want to waste any time." Ian says while walking away and exiting through the door we came in. The room starts to pick up in sound as everyone talks to their friends on what they want to do.
Ana hits me hard in the side and has a dark, determined glare. "I NEED new clothes asap. You all better not be my competition." I shake my head and tell her there is no way I'd want to go against her.
"Actually, I want new clothes too." Kyira speaks up softly. Everyone knows not to go against Ana when it comes to technology or fashion.
"Then be prepared to lose. You may have taken archery in school, but I took a much more useful sport." Ana says with pride in her voice.
"Track and field?" Tanaka asks.
"Cross country?" Kyira asks after.
"Nope." Ana raises her fists above her head and closes her eyes, "Shopping!"
The three of us exchanges glances and return our attention back to the short red head. She opens her eyes and explains herself. "Tell me, have any of you gotten an email about a flash sale in a store far from you and is only on for thirty minutes and didn't have a car to use to get there in time? I have. You know what I did? I ran there. A whopping four miles nonstop just to look at the stuff on sale at an expensive story in the city just to find out that I only liked this cute diamond necklace."
