I apologize in advance.
Today I wake up completely distressed. I did not get much sleep at all last night due to worry about today. It's like when you have a major exam or speech the next day and you don't sleep much before it. I rub the tiredness out of my eyes and mentally prepare myself for the day.
Kyira hadn't come back to our room and instead told Tanaka that she'd meet us when we get to the challenge room. All of the girls had tried to make themselves the most presentable for the choosing day, so it was hectic in the cabin. I go to each room in the cabin and tell the girls about the escape plan. All of them agree and thank us for what is about to happen. Even Ella looks relieved that she can escape the island without dying if not picked. After some unknown guards with Ian came to get us, we all head out for the final decision.
Ian walks alongside us with a frown. He takes Tanaka's hand in his and squeezes it for comfort. After a bit of walking, we see the white building for the last time. Ian pulls out something from his pocket and hands it over to me, telling me not to read it yet. I nod and put it in my pocket that doesn't hold my phone.
We are all lined up in no particular order, groups of friends trying to squeeze into the line to be with their friends, some trying to get close to me and Tanaka for easy escape. Kyira reaches us with her new friend by her side and stands beside Tanaka. After a moment of silence, Ana runs up to us from a different door in the room and hugs us in one big hug.
"I really love you gals." She says with a sad smile and tears threatening to fall. If she really loves us, why did she make us come to the island in the beginning? Why hasn't she still not said anything about it? I don't return her hug and just stand still. Kyira won't let go of Ana like she is her lifeline.
"I missed you, Ana!" Kyira cries out. Ana rubs her back and smiles.
"And I did too, my little street rat." Ana cracks a joke and Kyira smiles at her.
"What's going on with you, Kyira?" Tanaka asks her. Kyira lets go of Ana and softly glares at me and Tanaka.
She takes a step toward us and her eyes start glistening over. "You both left me alone. After Y/N got a boyfriend, she spent all of her nights with him instead of us. Then, Tanaka left us to go off with her boyfriend. Ana was all I had left, but when she left, I was all alone. You two didn't even once ask me how I felt about being all alone in the cabins where who knows what could happen." She wipes a tear away from her eyes, "I thought we'd all stick together through being kidnapped, but I was wrong. You all left me. How could I trust you?"
Kyira stands next to Ana, who is next to Tanaka in the line, and doesn't say another word. We are all quiet after her speech. I had no idea that she felt that way and I should have known. I'm a terrible friend for leaving her like this and I regret it. When we all get back home, it will get better. Though, now that I think about it, Tanaka is going to be with Ian now and most likely will move out of our house. I will move in with Lance here, leaving Ana and Kyira alone. Ana is also from these islands, so she will probably stay here too, leaving Kyira all alone back in our country at our house.
I shut those thoughts away for now, focusing on the present situation. I need to get Ana's phone off of her, just in case. It is in her back pocket, so while she looks over to Kyira, I pickpocket her and steal it. She doesn't notice when I put her phone into my bra, since my phone is already sticking out of my pocket. If I had two visible, it would strike suspicion. The door to leave is behind us, cracked open by Ian's doing. There are five podiums ahead of the lined-up girls, separated by fake water like in our previous challenges. There is a small runway leading to the podiums for the girls to walk up to their chosen guys. I look at the remaining girls and sigh at the amount. We have gone through a tremendous loss from the very first challenge when we could barely walk from the lack of room.
