Fairytales don't exist

As we grow up we're read fairytales and how there's always a happy ending. At one point I thought that too until my heart was shattered into a million pieces.

My dad loves romance and love. He is by far the most romantic person I know. I should know since he is the one and only Cupid Valentine.  His and my mom's story is probably the most romantic one I have ever heard since he has told me it countless times. I've heard it so many times I actually believed it thinking the same thing would happen to me and it almost did, almost. Let me start at the beginning.

At the beginning of my junior year in high school, I met the guy I thought was my Cupid Valentine. He was nice, friendly, smart, the quarterback of the football team, just like dad. He was perfect.

His name was Dane Matthews and he had eyes just for me. It started as a friendship eventually grew into boyfriend and girlfriend. He bought flowers, candies, teddy bears, romantic dinners. All those things you do when you're in love. It was perfect or so I thought.

By the end of the junior year, there was an end of the school year party. Dane told me he would meet me there, odd but whatever. So, I decided to go with my best friend Mia. We had been friends since we were little. My twin Austin and his best friend, who was our next door neighbor were going as well and would meet us there.

We got ready with Mia being a little distracted that night anyway but she was always like that, so I didn't give any thought to it. After we finished we headed over to Greg's place. Greg was also on the football team but nothing like the other guys. We were actually good friends and he was like a big brother to me. He reminded me of Uncle Mikey. He also had a girlfriend named Sasha that I became super close with eventually we became besties.

After we arrived Mia headed off to get a drink and I went looking for the others. After meeting up with them and saying hi it was time to find my man. I walked around looking for him asking people if they saw him and people shook their heads. Strange I know he said he would be here about now.

After looking around downstairs I headed to the second floor. I looked into every room until I came to a closed door which was Greg's bedroom. It must be off limits to the party goers. I turned to leave when I heard muffled laughter and what I heard what seemed like Dane's voice.

I opened the door to see if it was him only to be hit with a slap in the face of shock. He was sitting on the bed and in front of him was Mia with his hands up her skirt and his pants undone. The next words dug into my heart.

"Oh Mia baby, you know you're the only one I want."

"What about Allie?"

"Allie who?"

I felt the tears well up in my eyes and the anger burn into my soul, "This Allie!"

They stopped and stared at me in pure horror as I stood there on the verge of having one hell of a meltdown. Dane got up quickly pushing Mia to the side, "Baby it's not what it looks like."

"Really? Because how is it supposed to look?! A whole year Dane! And this is what you decide to do! Cheat on me! How long Dane?!"

He wouldn't answer me.

"How long?!"

At this point, people had gathered to watch as I screamed at him in fury.

"How long?!" I repeated myself.

He still wouldn't answer me but Mia did. She walked over to him and wrapped her arm around him smiling, "Half a year. Since you wouldn't give him what he wanted he came to me."

"You're supposed to be my best friend Mia. How could you do this?!" I was trying to wipe away the tears.

"I was your best friend. Allie always gets what she wants including the quarterback. Except Allie refuses to give him what he wants," she smirked.

I couldn't stand there and listen to her anymore and what happened next pretty much sealed the end of our friendship. I smacked her across the face hard leaving a hand print. She grabbed the side of her face, "You bitch!"

"I may be a bitch but at least I'm not a whore!"

I turned to Dane, "As for you, we're over!"

As I left he started towards me, "Allie!" Well, that was until he met someone's fist knocking him onto the floor.

The guy walked over to him, "If I were you I would stay away from Allie or you'll be meeting lefty too."

Then he turned his attention to Mia, "You're pathetic. You'd rather ruin a friendship over a guy that's not worth it? Well, I would say that friendship is dead in the water like both your reputations right now, toodles."

"This isn't over," she spat.

The guy turned around and walked slowly to her looking at her in a menacing way till he backed her to the wall, "It's over. Come near her and you won't like me."

"You wouldn't hit a lady."

"In your case, I will make an exception and trust me you're no lady." Then he turned and walked away, but not before stopping at Dane, "It was nice knowing you, Dane." He crouched down and whispered, "I feel bad for you."

"Why do you say that?"

"Jake hates cheaters. He even broke my dad's nose because he thought he cheated. If I were you I would run as far away as you can." With that he stood up and left, leaving them both shocked.

I ran downstairs crying when Greg caught me, "Allie what's wrong?"

I couldn't get the words out I was so upset, "Dane, Mia, bedroom."

That enough told him and Sasha what happened. He pulled me into a hug and I cried while Sasha helped comfort me.

Austin and Brandon came down a few minutes later with Austin picking up from Greg.

"Come on sis let's go home."  I nodded in agreement as we walked out of the house sniffling.

Brandon looked at Greg and whispered, "Your friend is an idiot. Jake's not going to be happy."

"Trust me, dude, he's no friend of mine after tonight.  He'll be lucky if he survives in the field after what he's done to Allie.  Please take care of her and tell her we'll stop by tomorrow."

"Sure, Greg, I'll say this once. You're a decent guy. Don't let scum like that corrupt you."

Greg nodded and Brandon left.

The car ride was silent all the way home and soon as we got home I came in and ran past dad straight to my room slamming the door shut.

"What the hell happened?" He asked looking at Austin and Brandon.  "What happened to my angel, Austin?!"  Fury was crossing his face.

The guys looked at each other than at Jake, "Dad you're not going to like what you're about to hear?"

"Austin I'm giving you two-seconds to tell me what happened," he snapped.

"It was Dane."

"What did Dane do?"

They were silent.

"What did Dane do, Austin?!"

By then mom came in to see what the commotion was.

"Allie caught him cheating on her with Mia. He's been doing it the past six months."

Dad's fists balled then he grabbed his keys heading out the door as mom yelled, "Jake where you going?!"

He looked at her, "To take care of a problem."  With that, the door slam shut and he was gone.
