Crystal Clear

The crackling of the fire, as the room held light in a gentle orange glow. As I held the photo, studying their expressions. The smiles upon their faces, the gentle breeze that blows their hair whilst the photo was taken. The youthful person that sat upon the woman's hip with a bubble of joy plastered across his face.
"Why did you leave me?" doing this like I did every day, just standing with the fire behind me warming the fibers of my legs whilst holding the photo and longing for answers as to why they had to leave me. As a tear leaked from the corner of my eye, I rubbed it away before it reached the ground.
Even now I still have no idea as to why it had to happen to me. 10 years down the line with twists and turns all the way. But through it all I've never let it hold me back, deciding to clear my mind I grabbed the keys and walked out the door.
As I approached the car, admiring like it's the first time driving it, even when that would be a lie. The crisp corners and curves of the classic pick-up style Land Rover coated in its metallic chrome silver paint job whit trailing streaks of black the emphasized the doors and hood. Topping it off with the carbon fiber grinding to the front whilst the custom fitted heavy duty off-road wheels allowing for the better handling.
Loving my car like it was my own child, but that could be true with it being the only thing that was and is truly mine. As the cool leather hugged me whilst I started to rev the engine, speeding out of the drive I turned and travelled down the road and travelled to the one place that will clear my mind of the thoughts on the past.
*Time Skip* - Couple of hours later
As the ground beneath my feet crunched and crack whilst the wind blowing the dirt up into the air. Walking into the mine, with a pick-axe slung over my shoulder as I ventured deeper into the mine. The flickering of the lights that hung from the roof of the mine, as I swung the axe high and smashed it into the wall allowing for debri to fall to the floor.
As the minutes ticked by and became hours the chipping and cracking of the wall deepened until I was dripping in sweat. As I wiped the sweat from my brow I continued to chip further into the wall, only to be greeted with a sudden shaking sound to emulate from within the walls of the mine."Oh Crap, please don't be what I think it is?" as those words left my lips I was greeted further with the one thing I didn't want. "Oh Crude, Cave In!!!!"
As the mine continued to shake, becoming more unstable by the minute, the lights started to swing from side to side creating a bouncing light across the walls. Dropping to the floor I crawled to the nearest support joist, sitting and waiting for the shaking to subside. Dust flied up into the air whilst debri from the walls and roof continued to fall.
After what felt like hours but in truth couldn't be more than a couple of minutes the shaking dissipated, standing back up to my fall height I checked for any damage to the integrity of the mine only to be see a sight like nothing that I'd ever seen before. A gentle amber glow was radiating from within the newly formed cracks within the wall.
Walking over to the wall I grabbed the pick-axe that I previously dropped and started to dig into the wall, further and deeper I dug the brighter the glow became. Suddenly the wall gave way to revealed a solid wall of fossilised amber radiating with an almost dessert brown glow.
Studying the cracks and indents that covered the full length of the wall, I noticed something that didn't quite look right. In a darkened area of the wall which was marked with strange detailed patterned there was a pendent of sorts hanging from a solid silver chain that sat embedded within the wall itself.
"Hello Son." A voice that I thought that I knew said from behind me
Slowly turning around from the wall of solid fossilised amber I was shocked to come face to face with the two people that I least wanted to see. "Mum, Dad. What are you doing here?" I asked with a hint of anger mixed with confusion intertwined within my voice
"Son, I think we might need to talk about that!" Dad said as I raised his finger to point at the necklace that lay sunken into the wall of amber
