Sophia opened her eyes, feeling his familiar arms wrapped around her. She wanted to let out a groan because it was far too early, but she couldn't stay much longer. If anything, she shouldn't have slept over his place, but sue her, she was tired from all the activities she and Blake partook in.
This always happened, her leaving at the crack of dawn.
She couldn't lie and say that she was still trying to avoid it.
As quietly as she could, she slipped out of Blake's grip, carefully maneuvering herself out of bed. She hated being caught by Blake when she was leaving because then they would have to have this conversation about actually being a couple. And she understood why they kept having this conversation. They've been doing this for three years and she never really tried to make a commitment.
But she couldn't.
She couldn't do that to him or her family.
Quickly, she dressed up and grabbed her phone. Opening the door, she looked back at Blake one last time before slipping out of her room. With the door closed, she made her trek down the hall and down the stairs. She was almost home free, but a voice startled her, her hand moving to her mouth quickly to cover her shriek.
Her eyes met with her older sister's.
Alena smirked and shook her head as Sophia rolled her eyes, taking a deep breath.
"Must you always do that?" Sophia whispered harshly.
"Yes, because I always catch you sneaking out." Alena chuckled. "You want some breakfast?"
Alena was Sophia's older sister who worked for Blake as his personal assistant. However, she was much more than that. Alena was his most trusted confidant and his best friend. There was no one in this world, who wasn't family, that Blake trusted more. And after her family disowned her, Blake was the only person she had left, besides her sister of course.
"No, I need to go." Sophia frowned.
"You know, it wouldn't hurt you to actually to have feelings for Blake." Alena has watched her younger sister and Blake do this dance for years. At first, Sophia wouldn't be caught dead to stay till the morning, but eventually she started staying, till the crack of dawn and her sister would leave. It was quite amusing. Her perfect sister, the one his father never had trouble with, was sneaking around to be with a NBA basketball star.
"Blake knows the situation."
"Does he? So he knows about your engagement with Elijah?"
"Ssh!" Sophia hissed. "Can you not?"
"Sophia, dad is announcing your engagement in a month, do you want Blake to find out then?" Alena didn't like the fact Sophia was doing this to Blake, but she also understood her sister's situation.
Everything was so simple in the beginning.
Blake was Sophia's distractions from the responsibilities she had to endure from their family. He was a great escape to have, someone who didn't want anything from Sophia but herself. Alena wasn't going to badmouth her family, even though they disowned her, that wasn't her style. She's had her bitter moments and let out her anger, but she never liked how they bestowed everything upon her sister. For a brief moment, she had thought of coming back, to save her sister from the fate they were once shaping for her, but Sophia told her not to come back.
'You got out, stay out. I'll be okay.'
Sophia's selflessness always led her to situations she should have never been involved in. Alena wanted to get her sister away, but Sophia was daddy's little girl, the apple of his eye and in some ways, Alena resented Sophia for that. No matter what Sophia did, their father wouldn't even bat an eye. However, she realized that maybe their father was so hard on her because she was the oldest.
Who the fuck knew?
Alena no longer cared. He chose to throw her out and she was fine with that.
She had Sophia and Blake, that's all she really needed.
"No," Alena saw her sister deflate, a frown gracing her face. "I can't tell him, I mean, I will. It's just not the right time."
"Sophia, you've been putting this off for a year. It isn't going away, unless you're not planning to marry Elijah."
"Of course I'm going to marry Elijah, I have no choice."
"You know you have a choice."
"I can't walk away too, Lena. You made your choice and I commend you for that, but I can't do the same thing. The business would fall apart and I just can't bear to see the disappointment on dad's face." And that was the problem if you're the favorite, you're so used to being favored that an act of defiance was an appalling idea. Though, her relationship with Blake was technically an act of defiance, but it was meant to be an act of defiance their father never had to find out about.
"Sophie, you need to cut things off with Blake. If you can't tell him about the engagement, then you need end this, whatever you two call it." Alena never tried to interfere in their relationship. It wasn't her place. But things were changing and they couldn't keep hiding everything.
Sophia knew her sister was right. How long could she keep doing this? She wanted to be faithful to Elijah once they were married. Blake was a distraction that she had kept for far too long. She lost herself in the happiness she felt with Blake and it wasn't like she was miserable, she could live without her relationship with Blake.
"I have to go," Sophia sounded defeated, exhausted. This wasn't the first time they had this conversation and it wouldn't be the last. Sophia couldn't drop Blake even if she tried.
"You can't keep running."
"I know."
