"Did something good happen?"

They persistently pressed.

"Hey, give it up. 

She's not going to say anything."

A boy classmate yelled.

Annoyed by the outburst of noises,
I turned my head away.
It's not like this matter
had anything to do with them.
Why must they be so nosy?

"Haha, she's ignoring you."

Classmates surrounding the boy patted his back
in sympathy.
Their bubbly, teasing laughs at his expense
gradually faded into the background
as my attention shifted away from them
and out through the window
onto the stone-paved pathways below.

School, huh...

Not like there was any meaning to this routine.

Waking up early every day even though I want to sleep in...
And cutting it close to when the teacher is about to take roll.

Still...

...I wonder how he's doing...

               Does he ever look out the window on a day like this?
