The next morning I awakened with a yawn and stretched. Looking around I saw Artemis on a bed opposite me still sleeping. Not wanting to wake her I tiptoed out of the room into the kitchen where I didn't find anyone. Everyone was probably asleep. I made myself some tea and sat on the counter just lost in thought.
A loud thump coming from the roof brought me out of my mind and I got off the counter cautiously. The thumps sounded like footsteps and they were joined by two others. I crept to back to my room and woke Artemis. "Grab you bow." I whispered and she instantly sprung awake and loaded her bow. She slept in black leggings and her mission shirt so she didn't have to get dressed.
"You go wake up Wally and Robin I'll wake up Roy." I said. Artemis nodded and we split up. I sneaked into Roy's room and found him asleep in bed. I tiptoed to the edge of his bed and shook him awake. His eyes opened lazily and he groaned. "Of my god Vertis what time is it?" He asked. "Someone's here." I whispered and he shot up.
"What about everyone else?" He asked grabbing his quiver and bow. "Artemis is getting them." I said and Roy followed me down the hall where we met up with the others. "What do we do?" Wally asked.
"There are at least three people but I don't know who." I said. Right after I said that the door exploded and a green arrow shot through the air missing my head by a centimeter. "Well we know who one is." Artemis said rolling behind a couch in the living room.
A blur of red flashed in my vision and before I could comprehend what happened I was held in a chokehold and was in front of Superman, Green Arrow and Captain Marvel. The flash was the one holding me hostage and I struggled in vain while Superman approached me.
"Vertis!" Robin's panicked voices yelled and I fought harder. "Let me go!" I said. "Not a chance." Superman said getting in my face. "I didn't kill Batman!" I protested. "Then why did you run?" Captain Marvel asked, more like sneered. "Wouldn't you?" The question caught him off guard and his expression changed.
Captain Marvel just stared for a second and then his eyes which were grey before returned to their rich color. "Team run!" He yelled and I then noticed that Superman's, GA's, and Flash's eyes were grey too. I took my chance while the were distracted and flipped out of Barry's grip. I looked back and saw Captain Marvel disappear like a hologram.
"Robin, I don't think this is the real league." I said. "Run now, Talk later." Robin said and he grabbed my hand, running to catch up with Wally, Roy and Artemis. "Wally. Take Vertis and get her somewhere safe." Robin said and he handed Wally a tracking device. "We will try to hold off the league for as long as we can." Roy said looking at me with determination.
"Stay safe." I said to all of them. "You too." Artemis said and we nodded. "Please, bring Dick back to me." I said to Artemis and Roy when Robin was talking with Wally. They both nodded and I hugged them. "Come back to me too." I asked but this time Roy and Artemis were silent. I bit my lip telling myself not to cry but one look at the archers' faces and my walls broke. "I'm sorry I had to ask you to do this." I said looking down guiltily.
"Don't be. I would gladly do it twice." Roy said to me. Wally picked me up and sped off to a 'safe place.'
