- Alanna -
"Alanna," Ashton slowly and calmly began. "You scared us."
"I'm sorry..." I quickly said.
"It's okay. Something seemed to have upset you, and we'd like to know what it was so we can help you," Ashton went on.
I was hesitant at first. The only soul that knew my entire story was Ms. Angela. Nobody else, and I wasn't sure I was ready for anyone else to know.
"Um..." I trailed off, not really sure where to begin. I played with my shirt, avoiding their eyes so I could keep stalling.
"Ash, I don't think she's comfortable yet," Calum saved me. "She's been through a lot. She'll tell us when she's ready."
"Oh, right... I'm sorry," Ashton sighed.
It was silent for a moment. Ashton seemed to be thinking about something, Calum's eyes flickering back and fourth between the two of us as he waited for someone to make the first move. Michael had his arms crossed her his chest, leg bouncing up and down as he stared at the floor. Luke was chewing on his bottom lip, eyes nervously looking around.
"How – um – how would you feel about seeing a therapist?" Ashton stammered over his words, nervously scratching the back of his neck.
A therapist? There was nothing wrong; I didn't need to see one.
"I don't know..." I trailed off.
"I feel like you hurting yourself wasn't the first time," Ashton hesitated. "Therapists are there to help you, Alanna. You have the chance to talk to someone, please take it."
Calum nodded along. I brought my hand up to my mouth and nervously chewed on my thumbnail. I didn't want to talk to anyone about it.
"Fine," I caved in upon looking up and seeing how sad Calum looked. Ashton allowed himself to smile, and he leaned forward in his chair.
"Great, I'll call someone in a few minutes," he told me. "Before I do that we need to discuss school. Would you want to do online schooling or go to a public school? You'd have to go to a new school."
"Public school," I shrugged.
"Okay. I'll go enroll you now and call a therapist," Ashton stood to his feet and walked away to a separate room.
"You guys okay? You two haven't said a word," Calum asked, turning to Michael and Luke.
"Yeah," Luke shrugged.
"How did you sleep? You seem tired," Calum worriedly asked.
Michael stood and walked to the kitchen, mumbling out, "I need a drink."
"Uh –" Luke was interrupted by his phone dinging in his pocket. He pulled it out and pressed a button. "Hey."
I could hear a male voice on the other end, but couldn't hear a single word.
"Alright. See you, dude," Luke hung up. "I'm going to hangout with Sam."
"Sam?" Calum whined. "You know how I feel about him..."
