"I'm sorry." Alex said for the third time.  I looked at him with no expression "I know you are." He looked at me with hope. "It's not your fault."

I sighed, giving him a small smile and put my hand on his, giving it a little squeeze. "You'd warned me."

I sat in anger, my leg pacing up and down. "You shouldn't have said that." Alex's comment made me roll my eyes.
"Don't tell me what to do or not Alex" I hissed. I was perfectly calm before Alex asked me to explain what happened and told me my move was wrong.
He raised his hands up in surrender. "I'm only saying because.. Steve, he's got a large ego. He'll–" he paused and sighed "I don't think he'll keep your secret a secret anymore."

"Has he done anything?" Alex asked and I simply shook my head and looked at him. Something in my eyes must've told him I didn't want to talk about this, because he seemed to have swallowed his words.

"Can I ask you something, Alex?"
He nodded, and got a little closer.

"Why did he do it? To me, to us?" I hope he understood my question.

I understand that he tweeted because I had insulted him. But why did he push this subject in the first place? He never used it to blackmail me for any other purpose. He only ever used it to torture me. I don't understand why. I've never done anything bad to Steve. I didn't even know of his existence before high school but aparantly he was in my class in middle school too.

"He isn't a bad person, Eileen."
I rolled my eyes at his reply. What good person does something like that?
"Don't try to defend Steve in front of me, Alex." I hissed. "I'll really have a hard time believing you after what has happened."

Alex sighed and shook his head. "He cares a lot about you." I laughed a little. "I think I've heard that before."

"You might not believe it, but he does. He had a crush on you, but it seemed to be more than that. I'd never seen him look at someone the way he looked at you. And Steve, he isn't one to settle down to one girl. It was serious Eileen. He was going to ask you out. But then he saw you. With him. And he took it rather harshly. He knew you had a crush on Grayson since middle school, he'd told me too. But I didn't believe him until you told me yourself. Grayson was a good friend of Steve. He had told him what he felt about you. I remember Steve almost screaming to me that Grayson doesn't even treat you properly. He felt hurt. And angry. He really was angry. And when he found a little solid evidence of you both, he, well, he decided to take revenge."

I stayed silent. My mouth fell open but I didn't have anything to say. I was left speechless by the new information.

"Look, I know what he did isn't right. But he isn't a bad person. Now, I do need to clear this up, and I think you'll be a little relieved–"
