Ashton's Pov:
I woke up the next morning to a great smell. It was unusual because the last few weeks I woke up to the smell of lavender air fresheners. It's like the orphanage was made of them. It always smelt like lavender. My least favorite smell in the world.
I forced myself to crawl out of bed and walk downstairs to see what was causing the delightful aroma. I was surprised to see that Maria had made breakfast. Pancakes with sausage, bacon and eggs. "Thought I'd make breakfast for you sweetheart!" She cheerfully said.
"Thanks! Normally my breakfast is a small bowl of cereal or an apple." I laughed a bit.
"Morning Maria, Ashton." Chris walked in. He went over and kissed his wife while I started to eat. It was delicious and I made sure to say 'thanks' to Maria once I finished.
"So, Ashton I was thinking we could go get the stuff for your room today? If you'd like?" Maria asked.
"We don't have to. My rooms okay as it is." I said. It really was. I don't need to change it.
"No no. It's no big deal. It's your room now! We need to make it your style!" Maria said. 'She really does love styling things.' I thought.
"Okay. Thanks!" I put my plate in the dish washer then headed upstairs to get dressed.
I grabbed my CrankGamePlays shirt with some ripped skinny jeans. I decided to put my hair into a fishtail braid on the side of my head. No contacts for me today. I didn't feel like bothering with them so I slipped my glasses on with my black converse. After brushing my teeth, I was ready to go.
While I was changing I caught sight of my scar in the body length mirror. It's all a distant memory to me now. 'He's gone. He can't hurt me now.' I reminded myself.
"Ready to go?" Maria asked once I got downstairs. I nodded and we headed to her car. We went to Kmart first. There I got some beds sheets and a comforter. Both black obviously. Maria was okay with it though. She didn't judge.
After a few hours of just going into random stores we decided to go out for ice cream. "I know this cute little ice cream shop we could go to?" Maria suggested.
"I don't care." We got there and it was indeed cute. I just decided to get a vanilla shake and Maira got a strawberry shake. It was pretty good as well. It seemed to be home made.
"So if you don't mind me asking.. why didn't you stop your dad earlier in life?"
"Couldn't. Last time I tried he cut me with a knife. He could have killed me if he wanted. I knew he would if I gave him reason. So Dylan and I didn't tell." I stated.
"I'm really sorry that happened to you and Dylan. Your such a sweet girl and I'm glad that I get to be your foster mom." She smiled. I did too.
"Thanks Maria. For everything. Not just today, but helping me."
"No problem. So what do you want to do when you get out of high school?" She asked. I hesitated. No one knew what I really wanted to do. Not even Dylan. Could I tell her?
"I-I don't know.." I stuttered, giving away my lie.
"You sure?" She questioned. She knew I was lying, I could tell.
"Okay I do, but its unreliable and stupid and never gonna happen." I said. I didn't want to say it out loud.
"I won't judge you Ashton. Whatever it is just tell me and I'll help you achieve it."
"Okay I wanna be a..."
AT SCHOOL THE NEXT DAY
"Hey Nate!" I ran and hugged my boyfriend, ignoring the odd glances and shouts of "NO PDA!"
"Oh my god, babe I missed you so much!"He said while hugging me.
"I missed you too!" I placed a kiss on his lips. "Come on we need to get to class." I said grabbing his hand and leading him to advanced art.
"Hey Chr-I mean Mr. Johnson." I said once we got to class.
"Morning Ashton and not Chris in school." He said and I nodded.
"You're on a first name bases with the teacher now? When did that happen?" Nate asked.
"My wife and I are her foster parents. So, Mr. Sharp, if you hurt her I'm your teacher and you may just happen to fail." Mr. Johnson joked.
"I wouldn't dream of it sir." We all laughed.
Before lunch we had a free period so I decided to ask Nate for some help with my future career choice. If you could even call it that.
"Hey Nate I was wondering if you could help me with something?"
"Sure. What's up?"
I told him what I needed help with and he led me to the music room. The only private room in the school because Nate seems to be the only one to go there.
"You ready?" Nate asked.
"Ready as I'll ever be!"
"Alright in 3-2-1."
