By the time Sylvia was six years old, she already understood what Jimmy and I did. She was curious. One morning while we were eating breakfast, she asked me, "May I come to work with you and Daddy after school today?" Jimmy and I looked and smiled at each other and I said, "Mommy will talk to Chief Boden today, okay?" She grinned and said, "Okay!" Then she hopped off the chair, kissed Jimmy and I on the cheek, and went to brush her teeth.

After I dropped Sylvia off at school and drove to the station, I parked and locked the car like always and walked to Boden's office. "What's up?" He asked, greeting me. "Hey Boden! Quick question for ya! So, this morning, Sylvia asked me if I could bring her here after school to show her what we do." I explained, "is that alright with you?" He approved and just as I thanked him, the alarm went off and we suited up. We arrived at Sylvia's school. The teachers and students including Sylvia were already rushing outside. I saw smoke and flames coming from one of the front rooms. I rushed to Sylvia's teacher and asked what happened and she told us that the screen projector in her classroom caught on fire during class. I saw that everyone there was alright and told the kids to stay with their teacher then I put my mask on and went inside with Severide, Hermann, and Otis. As we were putting out the fire, I spotted a drawing on Sylvia's desk...it was me, Jimmy, and her and it read, "Mommy and Daddy are my heroes!" I quickly grabbed and put it in my pocket. All of a sudden, part of the ceiling fell on us. "Y'all alright?!" I yelled, though I felt pain in my left shoulder. "We're fine!" Severide, Hermann, and Otis yelled back. As soon as the fire was out, we got out of there.

Once we were outside, Sylvia yelled, "Mommy! Do you have my picture?!" I walked to her with the picture in hand, knelt in front of her, smiled and said, as I handed it to her, "Yes, I sure do, sweetheart." She grinned her ear to ear grinned and thanked me. I took her hand in mine and with her teacher's approval, Sylvia and I walked to where the trucks and ambulance were. "You ready to go see the station?" I asked her. "Yes!" She exclaimed, happily. We hopped in a truck with Casey, Hermann, Severide, Otis, and Cruz and went back to the station.

Once I took my suit off and hung it in its spot, I gave Sylvia a tour of the station and we had lunch in the break room. Jimmy came in just as she was about to fall asleep. I had to go to the restroom to check out my shoulder, which was just bruised. I was relieved. I used the restroom, washed and dried my hands, and went back to the break room, where I saw both Jimmy and Sylvia asleep on the couch. I smiled as I sat beside them and fell asleep.
