Veronica met up with Kevin at Pops and straight away he knew something wasn't right. He was used to seeing the brunette walking around like she owned the place but right now she seemed really on edge and Kevin was genuinely concerned about her.
He asked: "what's up? And don't try telling me it's nothing because I can clearly see it's something, especially if the first person you go to isn't Betty". Even the mention of the blonde's name made Veronica's heart do little flips. She replied: "it's about Betty actually, she's asked me to be her date for the dance and I've agreed".
Kevin was very confused and asked: "what's the problem with going to a dance with your best friend? Seems reasonable to me". Veronica took a deep breath and replied: "the problem is that I'm madly and hopelessly in love with her".
A look of shock came across Kevin's face as Veronica continued: "the first time I ever met her she was sat in this very booth and I was instantly captivated. I thought she was the most beautiful girl I've ever seen in my life. There's been so many times I've wanted to tell her how I feel but she's the best friend I've ever had and I'm terrified of losing her".
Veronica was getting unusually emotional as she spoke. It was clear to see just how much she loved Betty. Kevin eventually said: "you need to tell her how you feel. If you do at least you will know where you stand, either way. If you don't there will always be a part of you wondering what if".
Veronica knew Kevin was right. She had kept her feelings to herself for three months and it hadn't done her any good. It was a relief telling someone and deep down she knew that Kevin was right and she had to tell Betty how she felt about her, whatever happened next.
Veronica thanked Kevin for his advice and he said: "any time. I have one question though? Does Betty even know you like girls?" to which she replied: "to be honest even my mum doesn't know. She's had so much on her plate with my dad I didn't want to load anything else onto her".
That was something else she knew she had to do. As Veronica was walking home she got a text from Betty which said: "meet at yours at 6 tomorrow?" to which Veronica quickly replied: "sounds perfect, see you then". When Veronica got in and saw her mum, she said: "I'm glad you're in, we need to talk".
Hermione asked: "what about? Is everything OK?" Veronica replied: "there's something I've been meaning to tell you for some time". After taking a deep breath, she uttered the words she'd been wanting to say for too long: "the truth is mum, I'm a lesbian. I've known for ages".
While Hermione was surprised by her daughter's revelation, she gave her a hug and said: "as long as you are happy then as your mother I will support you all the way". Veronica couldn't hide her smile, that was everything she had hoped for from her mum.
The next morning Veronica met up with Betty and said: "so, how did your mum react when she found out you're taking me to the dance". Betty replied: "well I'm still living there so better than expected". Both girls burst out laughing at Betty's response.
Veronica had given up trying to change Alice's mind about her, if she hadn't done so already then it was clearly never going to happen so there was no point even trying any more. Besides it was Alice's daughter she cared about- so much more than she knew
