"You loved me last night, but what about today?"

~

Tonight was a party held by your company for your promotion to basically your dream job, which you'd told Ethan about nearly a month ago. He promised he'd be there, and you were so excited to share this special night with your boyfriend. But when you got on stage to shake the CEO's hand, the bright blue tuft was nowhere to be found in the sea of people. Dejected, you accepted it with a fake smile and sat by yourself for the rest of the night.

In your in the parking garage, you fervently tried to call him. Maybe something had happened, and he physically couldn't make it. You got his voice mail over and over again.

You rushed home in a panic to find him watching a movie on the couch, stuffing his face with chips.

"Ethan." You breathed out a sigh of relief when you saw that he was okay, and soon anger replaced your worry.

"Hey babe." He grinned, standing up to give you a hug. "Woah, what are you all dressed up for?"

You were silent, not hugging him back or answering his question, just staring at him with your hands on your hips. After a few seconds, the look of realization dawned on him.

"The promotion party was tonight."

"Yes."

"Babe, I'm so sorry, I was editing and I lost track of the time and I got really tired so I decided to watch a movie."

"Did you even notice that I wasn't home at 6? That I didn't come upstairs to say hello? Or that I texted and called you dozens of times asking for my boyfriend's support during one of the biggest moments of my life?" You were getting yourself worked up now, but you didn't care. He needed to know how much this had hurt you, that he didn't even notice that you were gone.

Ethan shook his head apologetically. "I didn't notice, Y/N."

"Of course you didn't," you spat, tears filling your eyes as the feelings inside of you brought you back to a time in your life when nobody noticed or cared about you. Ethan was the first one in a long time to do so. But now he didn't. It hurt. So much.

Ethan stepped forward to try to hug you, but you stepped away from him and nearly tripped backwards in your heels. You swatted away his hands, barely able to see where you were walking through the tears. This was your first ever huge fight. You loved him to death, and you knew he had to balance his work with his relationship with you but this time he'd gone too far.

"Y/N, I'm fucking sorry, what else do you want from me?" Ethan snapped, and it was clear he was getting frustrated.

"We need a break, Ethan." You declared, stepping out of your heels. "I don't care where you stay, here, Mark's place, Tyler's place. Just please, I need some space."

Ethan wordlessly started up the stairs, and a few moments later he reappeared with a bag slung over his shoulder. "I'll go to Mark's. Goodnight, Y/N."

You nodded to him as he walked by,and once you made sure he had locked the apartment behind him, you sank against the door and cried.

It was only the next day when you found your finger hovering over the call button on Ethan's contact. You needed him. And you were also a little drunk. Amy had visited with wine and ice cream, and she had just left before you debated whether or not to call him.

Finally, you pressed the button and held your breath as the dialing started. After not even a full ring, he picked up. "Y/N?"

"Ethan." Your voice was shaky, you were going to cry again.

"I'll be over in five, okay?"

The call clicked off, and you dropped your phone onto the couch when you realized what you'd done. But you didn't care, you were sad and lonely and God, you just wanted Ethan with you so bad, whether you were angry at him or not. He still hadn't given you a real apology yet.

There was a metallic click of the front door being unlocked and you knew it could only be Ethan. He rushed to your side, pulling you into his chest. You cried, leaning into the touch you'd missed so much.

The two of you didn't even need to speak, he just held you for who knows how long. You'd cried yourself out, and looked up at Ethan with a loving smile. Still buzzed, you kissed him once. Then again.

"Stay the night." You whispered to him, kissing him again and again.

"I thought you needed some time alone." He asked, clearly concerned that you were going back on your word so soon. And he could also probably smell and taste the wine on your lips.

"Ethan." The tears welled up in your eyes again, and he had to relent, he never could stand to see you cry.

"Okay, but I'm putting you to bed right now." Ethan helped you stand up and walk up to the bedroom.

Since you were already in your pajamas, all Ethan had to do was gently lay you down and put the blankets over you. He was about to leave the bedside when you grabbed his hand and whined for him again. Ethan knew this was wrong, but he climbed into bed with you and rubbed your back just like he woukd do every night until you fell asleep.

You were soon fast asleep, and woke to a too-bright light in your room. Your head pounded and you couldn't quite remember anything after the first half of Pitch Perfect, bottle of red wine, and tub of cookie dough ice cream with Amy.

"Ethan, turn that damn lamp off." You grumbled, then remembered that Ethan wouldn't be there, you two were still having a break.

When you rolled over to turn it off youraelf, you were surprised to see another arm already poking out from under the covers to flip the switch. Opening your eyes more, you saw that lying a polite distance away was Ethan, fully awake. He sat up, running his fingers through his messy bedhead. Your memories from last came back, the desperate phone call to Ethan, the drunken request for him to stay the night. You were so fucking stupid, you were the one who needed the space. But you called him.

"Morning, Ethan." You said groggily, trying to find the right words for what you were feeling.

"Good morning, Y/N." Ethan started taking the covers off of himself, and climbing out of bed. "I apologize for missing your, please know that I am so damn proud of you. I'm sorry for coming when you asked for your space, I'll go back to Mark's now."

"Ethan..."

"You loved me last night, but what about today?"

You sighed, chest aching when you looked into those serious blue eyes. "I'll always love you."

He smiled, and you pulled him back onto the bed for a long hug. You had him back, your blue boy.

"I'll be there for everything Y/N, I promise; every promotion until you become the freaking CEO of that company, I swear." Ethan blabbered on, hugging you so tightly to him you felt as though you would meld together into one human being. "I love you."
