((this is a small imagine i had half-finished but put it on hold for the royal au so now it's finished))
A new ice skating rink had recently opened up in your town, and you were excited to go skating. You'd only been skating a handful of times, but since you could rollerblade, you were a natural at ice skating. And you had figured it was going to be a cute date with Ethan.
However, as soon as his blades touched the ice, he was gripping onto the wall for support. You turned to look at him with an eyebrow raised. "Can you not skate?"
"Nope." He shook his head, blue hair covered by a cute little beanie.
"Well you can't stay on the wall forever."
"I'll be fine, give me a couple minutes. Gymnastics gave me good balance."
"Okay." You said, unsure, skating slowly next to him.
Eventually you got fed up, and held your hand out for him. "Come on."
"No." Ethan shook his head persistently.
"Ethan." You gave him your best 'mom voice', and he begrudgingly took your hand in his. "Now let go of the wall."
"Fine." He huffed, and immediately his grip on your hand tightened.
"Hey babe, I need blood flow in my fingers."
"Sorry Y/N."
"It's fine. Now come on, push with your left foot, glide with your right."
He hesitantly did as you told him, wobbly as he slowly moved forward. "I am not having fun."
"So, you're from Maine and you never learned how to ice skate?" You asked with an inquisitive tone as he shakily moved forward on the ice.
"I did gymnastics, not freaking ice gymnastics!"
With a giggle, you let go of his hand and began skating backwards in front of him. Ethan's eyes immediately widened as he realized he was by himself. "Y/N!" He whined, and you tried to persuade him to go forward.
"Come on, Ethan, you've got it!" You encouraged him, holding your hands just in front of him so that he couldn't grab them, but if he started falling you would be able to catch him.
Begrudgingly, your boyfriend shuffled forward as a little boy speeded past with his friend, they were probably hockey players and were already proficient at skating. Ethan got startled and lost his concentration for a moment, stumbling forward on the ice. You lurched to hold him steady and he instinctively clung to you. The two of you wobbled for a second, but you managed to keep both of you upright.
"This is better." Ethan declared, kissing you before nuzzling his cold nose into the crook of your neck.
"Babe, we can't just stand where people are trying to skate." You laughed, detaching his arms' tight grip around your waist.
"Okay." He let go of you, and with a cocky wink and grin, immediately took off skating.
You were confused as you sped up your own skating to catch up to him. "You can skate?"
"I grew up in Maine, we did pick-up hockey every winter when the pond froze over." He shrugged, skating backwards in front of you with ease.
Narrowing your eyes, you finally figured out his plan, and made one of your own. "Ah, so you made me look like a fool for what? Your own amusement? Do you like making me feel stupid for trying to help my boyfriend?" You feigned hurt, even managing to make your voice crack slightly, as if you were about to cry.
"Babe, no!" He stopped to cradle you tightly in his arms, peppering your frozen face with kisses. "I'm sorry!"
"I'm not." You said under your breath, pushing Ethan before you started skating away, giggling as he cursed your name.
"Y/N!"
You called back mockingly, "Ethan!"
As you came upon one of the exits of the rink, you decided to hop off and wait for Ethan to catch up. He approached you with disgruntled features. "My ass is wet and cold."
"Do you want to go home?" You stifled your laughter, taking your gloves off to lace your fingers with his.
"Yes."
"I love you, Ethan."
He sighed, pressing a kiss to your temple. "I love you too, Y/N."
