The noon sky was filled with light grey clouds that were slowly making their way across the horizon. The sun was sitting comfortably behind the clouds, waiting for it to be uncovered so it could shine its light to brighten the dark forest.

On the ground, pine trees dominated the green forest, and on the soft grass, leaves of different colours were flying on their endless journey.

Within the forest, three cats were walking with their ears pricked and their nose held high in the air. Their heads turned simultaneously as the leaves on the ground stirred to the wind. "Do you smell anything yet?" One cat, a dark brown and grey tom asked.

Aside from the deep voice of the cat and the sound of their paw steps cracking the stiffened leaves, the forest was as silent and empty as their breathing.

A dark brown tabby tom let out a loud and frustrated sigh, his ears were twitching impatiently. The quiet forest was what made him frustrated. "Nothing. This is useless!"

The first tom laid a tail gently on the younger tom. "Falconpaw be patient. The prey will eventually come to us. It's their destiny."

The dark brown tabby, Falconpaw, laughed. "If you say it like that, I may just start feeling bad for the mice in the forest," he meowed to his mentor, who replied with a tail flick to the ear.

The third cat, a light ginger tabby she-cat interrupted the two toms. "Tornfoot, Falconpaw," she called their names to get their attention. "Sleetfall wanted me to get some catmint, so I'll be heading towards the abandoned twoleg nest."

The brown and grey tom, Tornfoot, nodded at the direction where the lake resided. "Okay, Falconpaw and I will see if there's prey near the lake," he said and then chirruped at his apprentice, who was sniffing around the roots of an old oak.

The ginger tabby nodded. "I'll hunt whatever I can find. Just head back to camp without me."

The two toms nodded and the she-cat departed for the old-abandoned twoleg nest, waving her tail as she walked away from them.

The path that lead to the abandoned nest was clear of grass. It was said that long ago the twoleg had cut the grass on this pathway and the grass never grew back. The she-cat looked at the ground in disgust and gently clawed the dirt that had hardened from erosion. Twolegs destroy everything they touch.

Soon, the abandoned nest came to view and as she got closer to it, she could hear frantic voices nearby. They seemed stressed and frightened, and the she-cat could not help, but head to the direction to investigate.

A small clearing where the voices were coming from was just a few paw steps away. Tall trees surrounded the area, blocking any light that could enter, bushes were placed at the sides like barriers that could secure a den together.

When the wind blew, she caught a whiff of a familiar scent. It got her bristling right away. Intruder! She crept close enough to see three shadows, but she kept a considerate distance. The wind was blowing from behind her and if she got any closer she could be scented.

A strong vibe of fear came from the three shadowy figures in the clearing. She squinted her eyes to make out the appearance of the strangers, but she was out of luck. One cat was engulfed in the depths of the shadows, making it hard to make out who it was. The other was only showing half its face, but she could make out that the cat had brown fur. The third was laying on the ground, still as a stone. The branches of the bush was covering half its body.

Suddenly the wind changed its course, blowing towards her. Her fur began to stand on end as a particular smell reached her nose. It was the scent of death. It was blood. And that's when she noticed the pool of red liquid on the ground.

Terror struck her. She stepped back out of fear and tripped on a pebble. Mouse-dung! It sent her tumbling backwards as the bushes to the side rustled loud enough to alert the two cats in the clearing.

The light brown tabby turned towards her direction, revealing green eyes. Two green eyes of a murderer! As she got up, she didn't think twice and ran as fast as she could. She didn't stop until she crashed into a patrol.

One of the cat from the patrol looked at her with an expression of amusement. "You seem like you've seen a monster."
