Mist swirled around Hollywhisper's paws as she blinked open her eyes. From afar, she could hear faint whispers echoing in the air as it danced with the white mist. She pricked her ears to make out the whispers, but no matter how hard she concentrated to hear the voices, she couldn't understand or make out a single word. More mists spilled out around her until she could not see anything, not even the paws in front of her.
For a split second, she couldn't remember how she got here or where the fog came from. All she could remember was lying down in the den that was given by the ThunderClan leader.
Then a familiar sweet scent drifted to her nose. "Brambledust!" She called out, whipping her head around so fast that it felt like it would disengage from her body. She cried out once again. "Brambledust, where are you?"
Brambledust was her old mentor, someone she trusted and cared about dearly. He died when he sacrificed his life to save Hollywhisper who was trapped by a young fox while she was gathering herbs.
Ever since then, the image of her mentor's death had haunted her in dreams and memories. It wasn't until a moon later when Brambledust visited her for the very first time since his death that she came to accept her mentor's passing.
Soon, the dusty brown tom appeared and the mist cleared enough for her to see his face. Hollywhisper rushed over and gave him a warm nuzzle. "I've missed you," she whispered so faintly that she wondered if her mentor had even heard. "You have not visited me lately. Why?" But instead of a warm welcoming smile he always had when they met in dreams, his eyes were instead filled with worry.
"Beware!" He meowed loudly while backing into the mist.
"Beware..." Hollywhisper echoed, as if no important meaning was behind the word. Guess it was because she was so happy to finally see her mentor again.
"Beware of a disaster!"
"A disaster.... what, where?" She asked, this time her fur rose in panic.
"A storm will sweep through the forest as the morning arrives. A wish will be made upon and with one swift answer, it can destroy all loyalty that one has believed in." Not long, Brambledust began to fade. His fur becoming transparent with a glow like the stars from the sky.
"No! Brambledust, you must tell me what it means, is it about the twolegs?" Hollywhisper cried out for her mentor as she began to run over to his fading body. "Please... don't leave...."
It was too late, the tom was already gone. Leaving Hollywhisper in the once again swirling mist. The whispers returned as well, and a new sound rumbled from a distant. The sound of thunder. It interrupted the tiny voices that mewed in the air.
Hollywhisper sat alone thinking of what Brambledust said, ignoring the growls coming from the night sky. Was it a prophecy?
Flashes of yellow light appeared, and the light only became brighter and brighter as if it was getting closer. Hollywhisper looked up to the sky and when she did, a flash of yellow dawned on her that caused a spark to her fur. She immediately bolted away.
More lightning struck down and it was coming down faster. She continued to run for her life as the light crashed behind her. Suddenly, she felt a bolt of pain on her back, an electrical pain that ran through her body causing her adrenaline to pump heavily. She fell to the ground and began to pant as if every breath inside her was slowly draining away.
The whispers also began to grow louder, yet she still could not understand what they were saying. It gave her headaches each time they roared in her ears. "No- No- NO! What's happening great StarClan?" She gasped in horror. Her heart was beating so fast that she thought it would leap out of her chest and the aching pain from the lightning-strike still rattled her to the core.
Another pain stabbed her side. "StarClan, please help me!"
As if on queue, the whispers stopped and Hollywhisper could hear her name being called by someone from far far away. "Hollywhisper. Hollywhisper! Are you okay?"
Hollywhisper jerked her head forwards as she blinked carefully, taking her surroundings in. She was back in the ThunderClan den, cats around were staring at her with shock and worry. Deerheart was standing above her, she looked up at the pretty queen. "Wha- What happened?" She asked.
Deerheart shrugged. "I don't know. You kept asking StarClan for help."
"Oh..." she paused for a while to get her thoughts together. Mist, voices, sweet scent, Brambledust, prophecy, thunder, lightning, pain. "It was just a nightmare."
Deerheart began to groom Hollywhisper, her mother instinct kicking in. The queen's soft tongue stroking her fur in comfort. "Whatever it was. You don't have to worry now. It was just a dream."
Hollywhisper nodded, but deep inside her, her heart continued to raise. She knew that this nightmare was far more than just a regular dream. What Brambledust said continued to repeat itself in mind. A storm will sweep through the forest as the morning arrives. A wish will be made upon and with one swift answer. It can destroy all loyalty that one has believed in.
She looked to the sky from inside the den. Oh Brambledust, come back to me. I need your wisdom, I need your guidance. To solve this prophecy.
