Leah's Point Of View

"You may now please sign this." The officer told my mum as she sighed, taking the pen.

Her hand flew over the paper, like it always would when she had to sign one of my not so good exams I had brought home when I was younger. She always had a clenched jaw and would ask me if I had learned for the test. I always used to tell her, that I did, but the truth is that I didn't, I just spent my time with reading books and all that kind of stuff, but somehow my mum believed me.

"I'll be right back." The officer said, leaving me and my mum alone.

She stared at the ground, in deep thought, knowing that we had to somehow gain money for the living, because now that the contract was signed, now that she had adopted Emily, we were not going to be able to live as expensive as we used to.

"Thank you, mum." I spoke as she looked up to me and smiled slightly, giving me a kind of an apologetic but warm smile.

My mum and I had had some really rough past days. After she had woken up in the morning I had some explaining to do about where I was, who I was with and most important who was this 12 years old girl in my bed room. I told her about Steve kidnapping me, leaving the Zahir part out, because only mentioning Steve, she already was furious. Apparently she knew Steve, she knew what he was capable. This was probably the reason why she forgave me for being away.

She told me about my dad, about that before I was born my dad used to live on the streets, he had no home besides the cupboards in the alley just next to the Branxton street. He was in a really bad condition, not holding on much longer, because he had been living there for two years and he was only 18 back then. Around that time Steve's brother had found him and had taken him home with him. It wasn't a home, it was the cave. Steve's brother Dave trained him for this certain job and gave him all the things he needed to survive.

The assassin was born.

Then when he was 20, so told me my mum she had been out at a club as she got kidnapped by one of his enemies. They knew my grandparents were rich and they wanted money, so they kept her.

She told me that she didn't get abused, but she was scared. Then one day she was smelling something burning and then she heard a manly scream which scared her. As she waited some more moments her door started to inflame. She couldn't escape, but she knew what was happening, namely the whole house was in flames. She tried several times to get out but she only ended up burning herself. At one point she fainted, but she remembered waking up in my father's arms.

I awed at her story, because it sounded so beautiful. They had their ups and downs but they had been a strong couple.
I forced myself to not tell her that it was Hayden who had taken my dad's life away. As much as I did, I couldn't, because I knew that she'd flip and throw bricks at me or something in that sense, so I kept my mouth shut and talked her into adopting Emily. After hearing her sad story my mum agreed.

So here we were, at the police station waiting for them to bring is Emily back.

They had taken her away from us once we told them that she had been missing for a year now. They were refusing to give her back to us, because my mum wasn't her legal guardian, but who was? No one. So therefore after she had told them that she wanted to stay with us we had to go to court and they accepted the request. It all took about two weeks, but now she was coming back and Zahir, my mum and I were all exited about it.

Zahir was tapping lightly with his foot as he starred at the door, I don't know what, but something made him very attached to this girl.

As the door opened, the officer walked in as a better looking and in better clothes clothed girl pushed her way in as she ran towards Zahir.
