"Miss Peregrine?" I questioned one day as we approached the exit of the loop for my weekly chronological practices. "Yes?" "Why aren't there married ymbrynes?" "Most to all of us dedicate our lives to our loops, helping, and protecting peculiars." I twiddled my thumbs "So there's no...rule or anything against ymbrynes being in love is there?" "Not to my knowledge, it's all just preference and priority. Of course, other than that, there's not much preventing you from doing so." We exited the loop and, immediately, Miss Peregrine took her pocket watch and rewound time 24 hours to put us at September 2nd. "And I'd not try to prevent you from doing so for good reason - take us back now." I extended the crown on the side of my ring, wound it forward, and set it, and we were back at the 3rd. "You and Enoch suit each other." My face went hot. I didn't know anyone knew about us... "I can see you've made him quite happy and vice versa, but I also know that one day you're going to have to leave and make your own loop; then it will be his choice to decide on whether or not he wants to stay here." Her words settled on my chest like a pile of bricks, and suddenly, I wished I had a different peculiarity. It wasn't fair that the direction in which my life went was influenced by the fact that I could time travel and turn into a bird. "I'll be counting on you to reset our loop again tonight." She reminded me as we reentered it. Practices tended to be extremely short, because there wasn't much to it. She'd take me back; I'd take us forward, and sometimes she'd make me reset the loop that night.

Neither of us had verbally let on, the fact that we were "a thing". No one found out about us sneaking out that night. At breakfast that morning, I sat next to him and got a few weird looks and confused smiles from Olive and Emma. And after that we were walking outside, holding hands, which also earned us a few more weird looks and a thorough questioning from Claire.

"Was it a dare from Millard?" She asked. Enoch shook his head. "Does that mean you're going to get married?" We both laughed and left her hanging on that question. Emma, Olive and Jake approached us, "Ready play 'Raid the Village'?" Emma asked. "Raid the Village?" I questioned. Jake looked down at our hands and was about to say something before Emma so politely cut him off with an explanation of the game. "Oh, that's right, we haven't played 'Raid the Village' since you've been here; we've had to put that on hold. Just tag along, and you'll learn, it's fun." We trailed off to the little town that harbored most of the island's population.

"So basically, what you do is destroy stuff and take anything you like, because it'll all be there, untouched and in it's proper place when the loop resets." Enoch explained. "And you're sure of this?" "Yeah, we've done it loads of times." Olive pitched in. "So the normals aren't conscious of the loop?" "Nope, they're a bit too thick for that." Enoch replied. "And you're sure -" "Relax, (Y/N), it's all in good fun, everything's temporary here." Millard said. I jumped, formerly unaware of him walking next to me. "I didn't even know you were here." He laughed.

"I forgot how far the walk is between the house and the village." I groaned and altered my form so I was a dove again. I glided along with them for a while before perching myself on Enoch's shoulder for the rest of the way. "I wish you'd quit doing that." He said. I pecked his ear because I knew he didn't really mind me being there. It wasn't long until small houses and shops started appearing. "I call the market!" Olive shouted. "Hey, you know that's my spot!" Millard called, and I assume he chased after her. "I think we should hit the bakery." Emma said, grabbing Jake's hand. "And I suppose that leaves us to the cemetery." I hopped off his shoulder, transformed, and brushed a feather out of my hair, "What?" "I like to get a little scare out of the men at the pub every now and then." "So you're going to dig up a body?" "No one said I had to dig anything up." We turned in a little gate and passed several headstones until it was clear that we were headed toward the back of the graveyard. When I saw what was there, I gasped. The skeleton of someone long dead and decayed on the ground. "How did this even get here?" "I'm not entirely sure, nor do I care. " He said as he fished something from his pocket. A heart. I shivered.

I kicked open the door of the pub and several men turned to face me, but I was out of sight. A dark skeleton with an agonized heartbeat danced into the pub and the men were scared shitless, throwing glasses, pipes, and shoes at it. There was even a man standing on the counter and another shaking by the stairs. Before the owner could get to the source of the madness, we were off. We dashed across the village,  until we were well away from the pub.

I dragged Enoch into the dress shop and tried on many dresses, lacy and frilly. The last one I tried on was was a flowing lilac gown with laces on the back like a corset. I stepped from behind the curtain that was there as a dressing area and asked Enoch to lace me up. He took his time in doing so, careful and slow as to not squeeze the life out of me (although I'm sure he would've brought me back). I turned around and he grinned like an idiot, blushing wildly.

"Shame I can't keep it, it's really pretty." "You're really pretty..." He muttered and quickly covered for himself, "I mean -  you can keep it...just for today." "Just for today." I sighed. I folded my clothes and he held them for me, and we were back running again, the lady in the shop chasing us furiously. We lost her a few blocks off, but we didn't quit running until we were down by the water. I took off my shoes and walked around in the white sand, leaving my footprints where I knew they'd disappear. We sat down and tried to make sense of where the water stopped and the sky started. "I don't know where people got the phrase 'sands of time'," I blurted, "Time is more like the sea, washing the little things away with the rise and fall of the tide. If there was a tomorrow, by the time it got here, no one would be able to tell I had been standing over there today." I stared out at the horizon line, watching little fish leap out of the water every so often in the distance. I felt him staring at me, but I remained silent. He let out a deep sigh.

"You're going to leave, aren't you?" He asked. "What?" "You're an ymbryne, (Y/N). You're going to have to go and make your own loop aren't you?" I paused, sick because I knew the answer, and so did he. He left the subject alone and got up. He walked out to the edge of the water, picked something up, and sat back down. "A clam?" He nodded and fished a little metal tool from his pocket. "Enoch, don't kill it!" I said, alarmed. He said nothing. I watched anxiously as he pried it open and extracted something. He went and carefully placed it back in the water and rinsed off the little tool. He came back and handed me a black pearl. "I didn't kill it." I smiled. "Will I still have this tomorrow?" "I don't know." We walked along the shore until the sun set. "It's almost time for dinner; Miss P won't be happy if we're late." I said. "I know." We started back towards the house, our fingers laced together. Standing in front of the closed door, we looked out at the sunset one more time before we went inside. The sky seemed more beautiful than it normally was, and so did Enoch's eyes. He leaned in slowly and pressed his lips to mine, and right then, I wanted time to stop forever. But it didn't. When we finally broke apart, he looked at me and started laughing. "What?" I asked, a little worried. He shook his head, "I just kissed a bird." I laughed too.

That night before dinner, I placed the pearl under my pillow. I reset the loop. When I woke up, it was gone. I wanted to cry.
