What if he hates me?

It took hours to get back home. Hours of my wolf fighting me inside my own head. Though we were at odds about the mate pull at the moment, we both were ecstatic to be back home. Closing my eyes, I twirl as I take in a deep breath. I took the time to memorize the sweet smell of home. The bus dropped me off right in front of the woods where I grew up. The pack was only a mile or two into the trees. The worn path that connects the bus stop to the town was one I walked frequently. With my toes in the soil and my shoes in my hand, I walked the familiar path with a giggle bubbling up out of my stomach. Not too long ago, I would be walking home at night along with Cat. Those drunken nights were full of fun and partying. We were both big party girls. Sometimes, we would get a little too tipsy but we always ended up okay.

My train of thought took a turn and I went crashing head first into a whole new place, a dark place. I thought about him. The man I really do love, who loves me. I kicked up the dirt as I walked. How can I tell him? How can I make him understand? My mind is racing with questions making me feel, making me hurt. My heart stops as I stand mid-step in the woods, alone. What if he hates me?

Everything tumbles down in that moment. I could feel my heart stop beating. I could hear the screams of agony in my head. Uncontrollably pulling out my blonde locks, screaming. My fists pummeling into the dirt as I let out another earth-shattering scream because that's what it feels like. My earth is shattering. I snap out my trance as I reach the edge of the town. What the hell was that? It felt so real. I rub the skin over my heart; the pain was real.

The bright sun comes into view as I walk out of the cover of the trees. I raise my hand to create a visor for my eyes. Bright blue eyes look my direction, eyes belonging to Cat. I fall a few steps back as I am engulfed into a hug. I laugh lightly and shove her away.

"What are you doing back here so early?" she studies my face, adding a wink. I groan inwardly, trailing my eyes down. Of course she would know about my mate. My eyes fall down from her face to her neck where a bright red mark lay. My eyes widen in shock as I gasp dramatically.

"Cat! Oh my, are you? Cat!" I stare widely into her eyes. "Explain."

She lets out a little giggle as she begins to explain, "Well, you know it was my birthday yesterday." I let out a shaky breath, I forgot her birthday. I'm a horrible best friend. "I decided to throw a little birthday bash in celebration and he came." I narrow my eyes at her. There aren't many people that we are friends with, who came to the party?

"Who came?" She let out a nervous laugh as I continued to stare at her. The tension was thick enough to smell.

"Well, an another alpha came for some reason so I thought it would be nice to invite them." She laughed nervously. "They came and uh-. Well, the beta was my mate. He chased me down and marked me on the spot." I was so happy for Cat, this was what she wanted.

"Does this mean you are leaving my pack?" She cringed slightly at my words. Realization set in as I realized what I had just said. This wasn't my pack anymore, at least not directly. I sighed, "Leaving your pack for his?" She nodded slowly looking down at my unmarked neck.

"I would love for you to meet him." She glanced at her watch. "Right now. Meet him right now." She turned, walking away swiftly towards the pack house, tugging me along with her.

When we reached the pack house there were a few males standing on the porch talking. I saw my father in the group and his beta. He was talking to a long haired blonde male, I presume an alpha from the way he carries himself, and a buff looking military man. Their heads turned in our direction as Cat ran over and hugged military man. My father stared at me for a minute until he started to run to me, capturing me into another hug. I glanced at the blonde man staring at us. I stared into his eyes curiously. He looked familiar. My father released me from his hold as the blonde man flashed me his pearly whites.

"Alpha Keaton." I shake his large hand as I continue to stare into his eyes.

"Skylar." I glance down at our still shaking hands.I wiggle my hand out of his grasp as I stare at him curiously.

"Skylar, Alpha Keaton and I have business to attend to. I look forward to talking with you about your time away?" my father raised a brow at me.

"Of course. I'll speak with you later Dad." I smiled at him and Alpha Keaton. The blonde alpha smirked back and winked at me as he turned away, walking with my father into the pack house.

"So Sky, how long are you here for? Don't you have duties to attend to?" she nudged me while giggling. I gave her a mocking glare as she ran to hide behind her mate. "Oh Sky, this is Eldon, my mate. El, this is Skylar my best friend I told you about."

"Nice to meet you Skylar." I nodded at his formality. He is a military man indeed.

"So I was thinking we could go have some fun together!" she cheered from behind Eldon. I nodded my head and walked behind the couple for a night of third-wheeling.

So Skylar came back home! How long will she be with her family and friends before she is taken back to her duties and King?

AND WHO IS THIS 'HIM' SKY LOVES?!

Alpha Keaton is a cutie too though.... Thoughts?
