I wander around the home that doesn't feel like home. Tiptoeing into what seems like the third dining room I have seen so far. It's so empty. So very, very lonely.
The aroma of bacon drifts into the air. I follow the scent and slowly make my way back into the kitchen from the first morning, getting lost a total of four times. I frown at the sight of a girl swaying while flipping some eggs. I watch her for a moment, waiting to see if she would notice me. To my surprise, she just continues to sway and cook. I let out a slight cough and watch as she jumps at least a foot in the air. We quickly turns around and curtsies.
"Hello Miss. Your breakfast is nearly finished." I study her appearance. She's extremely short with a blonde bob. The girl has large doe eyes with a slight upturned nose. She stares at me expectingly. I nod my head and sit down at the island.
I watch her finish the meal, enjoying how tense she felt because of my gaze. It was like I am the lioness and the girl, my unsuspecting prey. A slight grin tugs at my lips as she slowly turns around and places the last of the eggs on the plate. She does a swift bow and dashes right out of the room. I stare at the food in front of me. This was not just a breakfast, this was a feast.
Goosebumps prickle on my back, I can feel his gaze on me. He doesn't make a move. I don't make a move. The low hum of the air conditioner turning on breaks the silence between us.
"Hi." Hi? Hi. Did I really just say hi? Feeling mortified I wait for a response. I wait for a beat. The blowing of the air conditioner continues to drone on. I bite my lip. Another second ticks by.
"Hey." I stand up straight as I take in his masculine voice. It amazed me how just one word had such an effect over me. I wondered what two words would do.
"Nice, uh, breakfast you have here." I mentally broke down in hysterics. Breakfast. I complimented his breakfast.
"It's our breakfast." I didn't move because at this moment I didn't think I could move. I was stunned motionless.
"Oh." I swallowed the lump in my throats and grabbed a fork. I reached for the plates that I was just centimeters from grasping. Two steps, that is all it took for him to walk over and grab the plates. He was so close, I could feel his heat radiating into my body. He placed down his plate then reaches over and places my plate down right between my arms.
He starts shuffling food onto his plate, layering and piling food on top of each other. I wait patiently for him to finish until I start getting food for myself. He doesn't question me and we don't speak another word. We sit in silence for the remainder of the meal just enjoying each other's presence.
I couldn't help but wonder what A would think of this. It's not like we were official or anything. It's not like it could have ever happened. Nobody knew about him. He was my little secret. I take a peek at the man next to me. How could the man I love and the man I am made to love be so completely different.
I'm myself around A. We were meant to be. I take another look at the man next to me. We are supposed to be meant to be. So completely different yet so completely right for me.
