The Ties That Bind
Elsa had no clue what she was. She was adopted and knew it, raised as the middle child of a middle class family. They weren't poor but they weren't rich either.
Things were fine until she turned 13, it was when she started hearing a voice in her head. It startled her and made her think she was crazy at first.
She became more that day, more as in she wasn't alone. The voice started telling her what they were, not just human but more.
She kept silent and never told her parents, they she believed would think she was crazy. With her brother Devlin who was two years older at 15 and her younger brother Curt who was 11, they were very close.
Then the day before Devlin turned 16, she watched him closely. He started acting weird and walked off on his own doing a lot of muttering to himself.
That day he was sat down by their parents, she being nosy listened in as they told Devlin about the voice in his head he was hearing. She was stunned silent but she listened, taking in what they were saying to Devlin about what he was.
She learned that both Devlin and Curt were werewolves as were their parents. Their parents never mentioned her until Devlin asked. He was told she wasn't a she-wolf but she wasn't full human either.
In her hiding spot she sat and listened as Devlin was told about their kind. She was interested in hearing the talk as it helped her understand that she wasn't so weird or alone after all. If there were werewolves out there too, then she wasn't so alone. She just wasn't exactly like them.
After the talk, Devlin went with their parents somewhere and she stayed home with Curt. When Devlin came home later that night, he slipped into her room and cuddled with her.
She woke up sprawled like usual all over his back. Yeah, she always slept weird. Then she felt his body start twitching like he was jerking and having muscle spasms. The voice in her head told her that Devlin was about to shift and they couldn't help but could ease him through his first time.
She leaned up over him and whispered a phase in his ear, instinctively like she already knew what to say to ease Devlin. When Devlin woke, he cursed seeing where he still was.
He called out in fright to their parents. Meanwhile, Elsa was chanting softly the phrase in her head. By the time their parents showed up, they were scared.
She smelled their fear, heard their hearts beating faster. Elsa just ran her hand down Devlin's back to see how close he was and whipped the covers off then she was yanked from her bed.
She was taken to another room, their mother was scared, so she sent her back and said I'm going to sleep in Devlin's room. She slipped into her brother's messy bed and fell fast asleep, knowing Devlin would be fine.
She didn't hear the curses their dad said before he lifted Devlin up and swiftly carried him outside. Devlin shifted as soon as he was laid down outside. He shifted all at once and not like his parents told him it would be, an agonizing and a slow process. The pain was one giant burst and next thing he shifted his whole body into his wolf.
Their parents took Devlin away for a few hours, when they got back, Elsa was still sleeping. Devlin crawled in his bed and cuddled Elsa again, started snored in her ear waking her.
She got up and went to her room, got ready for the day. She headed off to school with Curt seeing as they were told Devlin wasn't feeling well and was staying home.
Things changed at home, Devlin was expected to spend more time at the pack house. He was antsy, not wanting to be around a lot of the pack members. The she-wolves he was introduced to made his skin crawl.
