I turn to walk towards my apartment building still on a high from what has just happened with Spence. When I see him standing out front of my building holding a big teddy bear and a bunch of roses and daisies. Goddamn why do you have to be here right now? Even with my favorite flowers and a big teddy. All we need now is for it to start raining and we have our typical cliché romantic gesture to win the girl you love back!
"What are you doing here?" I say as I come to a halt in front of him.
I look him up and down, he still looks the same as he did when we broke up. But now he has a new mature haircut, his black hair is all sleeked back like a proper business man and them brown eyes are still a gorgeous. As long as he doesn't turn on them goddamn puppy dogs eyes like he does every other time he apologized for doing stupid things to hurt me.
"Evelyn, I have come to my senses and realized that you are the girl for me. The one I want to marry and spend the rest of my life with," he announces as he steps toward me.
I take a step back shaking my head, "Why now?"
"I have been miserable without you the last three months. I never realized how much you meant to me until I lost you for good."
I can feel tears welling up in my eyes, "you can't do this to me. You don't love me. You just love the idea of having me and not being lonely."
"If I didn't love you, would I be standing here right now with a bunch of your favorite flowers, a big teddy bear and making a grand romantic gesture?" he asks.
"You are only doing this romantic gesture because you know how much I love the romantic clichés in the movies!"
I try my hardest to not look him in the eyes but our eyes lock and I can see the pain in his eyes from not being with me. I shake my head and push myself past him. As I push myself past him, I feel his hand grab my wrist after he drops the teddy bear and flowers to the ground. He pulls me toward him and kisses me. I sink into his embrace as he kisses me passionately. I can't help but feel butterflies in my stomach, this is the guy I spent years loving and pictured growing old together and having three children with after getting married.
He releases me from his embrace and says, "Evelyn Marie Ashford, I'm not doing this because you love the grand romantic gestures in movies. I'm doing this because I love you and want you back in my life. I want to get married, have children and grow old together."
I begin to cry as I have wanted him to say them eleven words to me forever. He wipes away my tears and kisses me again. I can't help but wrap my arms around his neck and lean into the kiss more this time. It feels like we have been kissing for an eternity when I hear my name be called.
"Evie, is that you?" someone says from behind me.
I pull away from the embrace and turn to see Spence standing there holding my phone.
"Spence?" I say as I stand there stunned.
"You uh left your phone in the taxi and I thought you might need it. So I got the taxi to turn around," announces Spence as he holds out my phone.
"Thank you Spence. This isn't what it looks like," I pronounce as I grab my phone off him.
"Thanks man for bringing my girl's phone back. Names Riley," as he puts out his hand to get a handshake from Spence.
"Spence," as he shakes Riley's hand.
"How do you know my Evelyn?" questions Riley.
"Oh, I filled in for Mandy at work and meet Spence today. He's a male model and we all went for drinks tonight. Spence was kind enough to split a taxi with me when I said I wanted to go home early," I announce quickly before Spence can tell Riley that we kissed tonight.
"Yeah what Evie said. How do you guys know each other?" asks Spence.
"Oh, Riley is an old friend from high school and we just bumped into each other out front of my building. We just kiss each other every time we see each other. It's just how we say hello to each other," I announce quickly before Riley says anything about being my ex-boyfriend.
I can see Spence raise his eyebrows at me, and Riley turn his head in a confused manner.
"Well it's been a long day, I think I might head upstairs to bed. Thanks for dropping off my phone Spence, would have been lost without it and I will talk to you later. Riley, it was great bumping into you and I guess I will talk to you tomorrow," I say as I go to walk away from both guys.
I hurry away before either of them can get a word into me. And rush myself up to my apartment. Once inside I ring Mandy and inform her to get home as quick as possible that I'm in a little dilemma.
