A quiet huff escaped Serena as she made her way down the hallway. She tinkered with the keys in her hands, wondering whether or not she should continue or head back the way she came. Part of her considered the latter, while the other part of her wanted nothing more than to see her brother before he left for Atlanta. She was still upset with him because of his remark regarding her relationship with Louis, and she would probably remain that way for a short time after he left, but she knew her mother was right. Serena could not just leave her brother without a goodbye, especially not knowing what would happen while he was away.
Serena soon approached hers and Sebastian's shared apartment door and stuck the key into the slot, unlocking it immediately. She pushed the door open and stepped inside, alerting Sebastian that she was finally home. He knew telling his mother about what happened would do him some good. As she had told Serena in the first place, she was among the few able to talk some sense into the younger Stan sibling.
"Serena?" Sebastian called out as he pushed himself off of the couch. He quickly scooted past his luggage and strolled out of the loft, stopping only when he took notice of Serena. A small smile fell upon his face and he moved to hug her. He still felt horrible about what he had said to her the previous night, and he knew she was still angry with him, but he couldn't resist the urge to hug her.
"I'm here," Serena breathed out as she very surprisingly wrapped her arms around her older brother's torso. It was likely the last hug she would get from him in a while.
Sebastian pulled away from Serena, though he kept his hold on her arms. "I'm sorry for what I said, okay? It was stupid of me and rude of me."
"Yeah, it was," Serena scoffed. She moved to sit down on the couch in the loft. Sebastian followed behind her. "If mom wouldn't have texted me, I wouldn't be here right now."
"Why do you think I called her?"
Serena shrugged and smiled softly. "I should've figured you would. You're a crybaby."
"I am not a crybaby," Sebastian defended himself. "I just refused to leave without seeing you, and I knew mom could talk you into coming home."
"And so she did," Serena replied. "What time does your flight leave now?"
"I changed it to 8. We're going out before I leave since we didn't last night," Sebastian told her.
Serena raised a brow and looked over at him. "And what if I don't wanna go out? What if I wanna stay here and sleep?"
Sebastian only rolled his eyes and stood up, pulling Serena up in the process. "I wanna spend my last few hours in the city with my sister. I'll be damned if I let you sleep that time away."
"Whatever, dude."
"Come on," Sebastian urged her. "We have food to eat and sights to see."
"You sound like a tourist, Sebastian," Serena teased him.
"That's the point," Sebastian laughed. "Now let's go."
Serena could only shake her head as she allowed her brother to pull her out of their apartment and into the enormous city of New York. She honestly didn't know what she was going to do without him for the next few months, but she hoped she could manage to find someone besides Cocoa to keep her company. What she didn't know was how simple of a task it would become.
