"I'm going to miss you so much." I heard my sister say, as she hugged our mother for the hundredth time since we exited the house; which was ten minutes ago! To say I was exasperated would be an understatement.I just sat on the car's hood, waiting for my sister's dramatic antics to be over, as I basked in the sun, enjoying the last rays that I would feel on my face for a long time.
I'm going to miss this place... I thought sadly as I look up at the house where I grew up. In a little more than two hours Bella, my older sister, and I would be leaving our joyful, sunny Phoenix home to go to rainy, cold Forks, Washington.
"Audrey, are you okay?" I looked at the other end of the car, watching as Phil closed the trunk, having just finished putting our bags in. Phil was our stepfather. He is nothing like the things that come to someone's mind when they hear the word stepparent.
He is sweet and caring, he's extremely funny, making you laugh until your cheeks are sore. I liked Phil very much. And the fact that he made our mother, Renee, happy, is more than enough for me.
His baseball career is why we had to leave Phoenix and head back to Forks. The two of them, would go down the road and move to Jacksonville, Florida.
I don't blame them really; if I was older and in love like the two of them are, I would jump at the chance to travel, if not the world at least through the States.
"Yeah, I'm alright." I shot back, half-heartedly. "Worrying that you'll lose your tan, kid?" He joked, coming beside me and ruffling my hair. I burst out, laughing at the cheesy smile plastered on his face.
"I don't know what you're talking about. This tan ain't going anywhere. Going to stand out greatly in dull little Forks. Always the special one." I smirked, pointing at my naturally tan face.
"Although, whitey over there may not have any problem fitting in the cloudy weather back in Forks; just the thing she was hoping for." I said nodding towards my pale sister, who was still hugging our mother.
While Bella was pale, almost as white as snow, with long brown straight hair and chocolate brown eyes, I was naturally tan, with dark brown, almost black, hair that fell down my back in natural beach curls and bright green eyes.
She was also two years older than me, but also a couple inches shorter. All in all, we looked nothing alike. And that was because I was adopted by my parents when I was a few days old.
But I didn't care much about being adopted, because I always felt like I belonged in this family and they never treated me as if Renee wasn't my biological mother.
I didn't even look for my biological parents; I already knew the story and that was enough for me. My mum was from the Quileute reservation not far from Forks and she died giving birth to me.
Nobody knew about my biological father since he raped my mother and she never said anything about his identity, except for the fact that he wasn't from around there.
